Chapter 6

“Allison?” Silver asks groaning as he looks over to see the clock showing the time of two in the morning. “What do you want?” He asks his sister who is standing over his bed, “It’s two in the morning.” Allison nods as she nervously paces Silver’s room.

“Then why is dad up?” She asks her brother. “It’s dad. He does wants and doesn’t care about the consequences.” Silver mutters as he closes his eyes once more but Allison has different plans. Silver yelps as a pillow hits him in the face, “Fine. Fine. Let’s go see what’s going on.”

Silver follows Allison out to the balcony overlooking the foyer. “What’s going on?” Allison asked confused. Argent stops and turns to look at the twins with a fake smile that doesn’t quite meet his eyes. “Your aunt Kate just texted. I’m heading out to pick her up.” He tells them.

Silver crosses his arms over his chest, before frowning in concern and anger, “But it’s two o’clock in the morning. Is everything okay?” Argent replies in a calm tone of voice, but it’s obvious that he’s lying, “Yeah, yeah. She’s just having a little car trouble.”

“Not serious is it?” Allison asks. Argent smiles fakely once more causing Silver to have a bad feeling before gesturing towards their bedrooms, “No, just a flat tire. Go-go back to bed, you too.”

Allison, takes the lead oblivious to the fact that their father just lied to them and walks back to her room. Silver stays in place as he stares down his father. “Silver.” Argent calls out motioning for his son to come down to him. Silver agrees as he does silently before stopping in front of his father.

“I love you, kid. You know that, right?” Argent asks not getting a reply from his son. “Do you have to bring her here?” Silver asks after a moment of silence. Argent sighs as he nods pulling his son into a hug and kissing the top of his head, “Arthur, she wants to be there for you. I’ll talk to her.” Silver nods as he takes a step back.

“You called me my first name.” He mutters earning a confused glance from his dad, “You only do that when you’re worried.” Argent hums as Silver quickly runs up and hugs his dad before pulling away, “I love you too.” He quickly says before rushing back up the stairs.

🐺

It’s now morning, and the sun is out as Kate, standing beside the bed in the guest room, unpacks her bags. Suddenly, a squeal is heard as Allison, still in her pajamas, rushes into the room, leading Kate to gasp in surprise as the two hug each other. Kate ends up squealing as well before pulling back to get a good look at Allison and gasping again incredulously.

“I don’t see you for a year, and you turn into a frickin’ runway model?” Allison groans bashfully and rolls her eyes before turning away from Kate briefly. “Oh!”

“Look at you!” Kate groans sarcastically as she continues to tease Allison, who sits down at the head of the bed and props her elbows on her knees, “Oh, I hate you!” Allison groans herself, this time arguing against Kate’s words. “I haven’t even showered yet…”

Kate gives Allison a look that says she needs to stop that line of thinking right this second, “Sweetie, you’re a knockout. In fact, I hope you have the boys knocking each other’s teeth out for your attention.”

” I don’t have one.” Allison shyly says as Kate continues to unpack her bags, stacking her folded clothing on the foot of the bed, “You don’t have one? You should kind of have a million.” Kate looks around before whispering, “What about your brother?”

Allison starts to grow a smirk causing Kate to copy her, “Oh tell me more.” Kate looks up to see Silver walking past her room, “Silver, get your butt in here.” Silver groans in annoyance hearing his aunt Kate before he walks in and hugs her.

“Look at you.” Kate tells him as he takes a seat next to Allison, “Allison tells me that you have a boy, now?” Kate laughs causing Silver to smile fakely. “Yeah.” Silver looks around trying to get out of the conversation as he reaches for a bag laying in front of him that Kate hasn’t gotten to yet, “Need some help unpacking?”

“No, not that one.” Kate says reaching out grabbing Silver’s wrist tightly. He holds in his pain as he jerks backwards and Allison frowns. Both not understanding their aunt’s weird mood swing, and Kate, realizing she just drew more attention to the contents of the bag, tries to backpedal with an awkward, apologetic smile.

“Oh. See? Both of turn out beautiful, and I end up with this kung-fu death-grip. Sorry, sweetie. I didn’t mean to be so rough.” Kate tells him. Silver tries to shrug this off, but he is now more wary of Kate. “No worries.” He mutters.

“Hey, is everything okay with your car?” Allison asks as Kate puts the bag on the floor and she tries to change the conversation. Kate, in the bathroom attached to the guest room, calls to Allison in the main room in an unsure voice, “Oh, yeah. I just needed a jump-start, that’s all.”

Allison and Silver both look at each other, confused. “A jump-start…?” Allison asks her brother causing Silver to sigh.

🐺

“Silver.” Silver jumps as he hears Lydia’s voice scream down the hallways. The girl walks over and hugs the Argent boy, tightly and he returns the hug. It was after that night that Silver stayed at Lydia’s did he spill everything to her.

He believed her words that they were friends. He wanted to believe. He needed to believe.

“Scott’s coming over? Tonight?” Lydia asks as she and Allison share a look as the sister now joins the trio. “We’re just studying.” Silver tells her as he shuts his locker and the three start to walk through the school.

“Just studying’ never ends with just studying.” Lydia tells him and Silver looks confused as he shrugs. “It’s like getting into a hot tub – somebody eventually cops a feel.” Lydia says to him. Silver looks at her anxiously as he starts to get insecure.

“Well, so what are you saying?” He asks her. “I’m just saying, you know, make sure he covers up…” Silver looks at Allison in confusion and he keeps his head down, now scared. “Hello, Snow White! I’m talking about a condom!” Lydia slaps Silver playfully on the arm as she walks up to the steps, and the Argent twins follow after her.

“Are you kidding? After one date?” Silver asks as Allison tries to hide a laugh. “Don’t be a total prude. Give him a little taste.” Lydia shrugs and pats Silver on the arm once again, but Silver is still unsure. “Well, I- I mean… how much is ‘a little taste’?” Silver asks her.

“Oh, God! You really like him, don’t you?” Lydia groans. “You should see the smile he has on his face when he’s home.” Allison tells Lydia causing both girls to laugh and Silver blushes and sighs, “Well… He’s just different. I had a plan that no more boyfriends ’til college. We move way too much and besides older boys are more mature and they know who they are and know who they want.”

Allison sighs as she notices Silver deflate a little. “Your brain is flooding with phenylethylamine.” Lydia says as she tries to look unmoved by Silver’s emotional confession. “What?” Both twins ask her.

“I’ll tell you what to do.” Lydia sighs in defeat, “When’s he coming over?”

“Right after school.”

🐺

“Are you going to be okay?” Allison asks and she and Silver both get in their car, “With Kate?” Silver nods as he pats the steering wheel, waiting to get out of the line of cars. “I mean. I can’t stop her from being at the house and no doubt she’ll bring him up. I can’t have you ditching me, okay?”

“I’ll be right there, next to you.” Allison tells him quietly. Silver groans as he gets out of the car to see what is going on and Jackson follows her lead, in front of her as Scott pulls Derek to his feet.

“Help me get him in your car.” Scott tells Stiles as they both get him in the passenger seat. “I need you to find out what kind of bullet they used.” Derek tells Scott, turning to him. Scott scoffs as he looks at Derek, “How the hell am I supposed to do that?”

“Cause he’s an Argent. He’s with them.” Scott gives Derek a look trying to understand, “Why should I help you?” Derek, looks genuinely scared as he tries to reason with Scott, “Because you need me.”

Scott looks over and sees a confused Silver walking towards them, “Fine I’ll try.” Scott turns to look at Stiles, who has just climbed into the driver’s seat and who’s expression makes it clear that he’s feeling very put-out at the moment. “Hey, get him out of here.”

“I hate you for this so much.” Stiles says as he drives off. Silver rushes up to meet Scott with concern, “Hey, what was he doing here?” Silver points at the Jeep leaving the school. “Stiles was just, um, giving him a ride.”

Silver, now even more confused crosses his arms as Scott tries to shrug it off, “Uh, long story.” He tells Silver. “But I thought you said you weren’t friends with him…” Scott now anxious, starts to worry, “No, not really. Um, we’re still studying together, right? So, I’ll meet you back at your place?”

“Yeah.” Silver answers with a smile. Scott smiles and leans forward to give him a kiss on the cheek, “Okay, bye.” Scott rushes off to grab his bike before Silver can even mutter a word. “See you later…” He whispers to himself before walking back to his car.

🐺

Silver pulls up to his house as he and Allison both watch Scott quickly come up behind them. “He’s weird.” Allison tells her brother, “I’ll be in my room if you need me, okay? I mean for anything.” Allison says to Silver as she gets out of the car.

“Scott.”

“Allison.”

Silver gets out of the car as he stares at Scott confused, “How did you do that? You got here at the same time I did.” Silver asks him. “Oh, yeah, I-I-I just took a shortcut. Really short shortcut.” Scott says anxiously.

“Are you okay? You’re acting bizarre.” Silver asks they both walk up to the front door, “If you need to go home. We can reschedule.” Scott shakes his head as he follows Silver, “I’m just… stressing about classes. I’m not doing as good this year.”

“Not doing as well.” Silver tells him, amused. “See? Exactly.” Silver laughs as he opens the front door gesturing for Scott, “Maybe we should start with English?” Silver and Scott walk into the house as Silver notices Scott looking around the house. “Nobody is home besides Allison. Come on!” Silver grabs Scott’s hand and drags the boy up the stairs.

Silver leads the way for Scott as he leads him into his room. Scott shuts the door behind them as Silver puts down his bag as he glances over to a few boxes that are left. “I’m still unpacking.” He says shyly. “Uh, haven’t you been here for, like, over a month?” Scott asks him.

“I was afraid if I unpacked we would leave but I’m taking my time.” Silver answers him with a smile. “Hey, um… so, uh, I figure that we… start with, um, history…” Scott says. Silver takes off his jacket as he walks over to Scott slowly. He puts his arms around Scott’s waist turning him around.

He looks up at Scott for a moment as his heart starts to race before he leans in and connects their lips. The kiss starts off slow as Silver is almost afraid to make a move but once Scott responds he pushes himself against Scott. He throws his arms around Scott’s neck as Scott started to fall back on his bed.

Silver climbed on top of him as Scott’s hands traveled down his back and Silver gripped onto Scott’s hair. His head tilted left as Scott’s tilted right and the two bumped noses causing them to smile.

But it was quick when Scott pulled away sending Silver into a panic, “What’s wrong? Did I do something? Are you okay?” Silver asks sitting up. “Nothing. I just, I-I don’t wanna make you feel like you have to do something you don’t wanna do…” Scott says as he looks up at Silver.

Silver chuckles as he looks at Scott flirtatiously, “I’m not doing anything I don’t wanna do. Are you?” Scott in returns laughs as he pulls Silver back down to him, “You’re seriously asking me that question?”

The two start to lean in again but before their lips could touch, Scott’s phone rings. Silver groans as he leans his head on Scott’s shoulder, “Are you going to answer that?” He asks. “Um… yeah, it’s probably just Stiles. It will go to voicemail, eventually.”

Scott leans into kiss Silver once more but his phone still continues to ring. Silver reaches over to grab Scott’s phone but Scott stops him, “Wait!” He calls out and Scott looks at his hand confused for a second. “Uh, yeah. I should answer it now.”

“It’s off.” Scott tells him after answering Stiles’ text. “If he needs to talk to you, you can answer him.” Silver whispers to Scott, “I get it.” Scott smiles at Silver before spotting some of Silver’s boxes open.

“These are actually Allison’s things.” Silver points out as he moves next to Scott. Scott reaches down to grab a picture frame of their dad and their aunt Kate. “Who’s this?” He asks pointing at Kate. “That’s my dad’s sister, Kate. Except she’s more like a sister to Allison at least. We were close but then her and Allison had more things in common. She got here last night.”

“Uh, last night?”

“Yep, she had some car trouble.” Silver mutters. “She looks familiar.” Scott says as he stares down the photo. “She used to live in Beacon Hills. Maybe you saw here.” Silver says grabbing the picture frame from Scott. Scott reaches down as he pics up another frame but this time it was Silver, Allison and another boy.

He was tall, almost towering Silver with bright red hair and black eyes. All three of them were smiling and laughing. The boy in the middle had his arms around the two Argent twins.

“Who’s this?” Scott asks showing Silver the photo. Silver’s mood drops as his face is frozen with fear and anger. “Silver?” Scott asks once more. Silver reaches over grabbing the photo from Scott as he stares down at them.

“This is Michael.” He whispers, “He was my ex-boyfriend. My aunt Kate set us up. All three of us were really close, best friends almost.” Silver admits as he tosses the photo back into the box. “What happened between you two?” Scott asks quietly.

Silver doesn’t answer as he tries not to have his tears fall down. He was hurt. He was angry. He was everything and more at his sister. He was confused mostly though on why she still had this photo.

“He was in love with someone else.” Silver admits glancing at Scott. “Sorry, I just,” Silver trails off as he wipes his eyes, “We ended on bad terms.” Scott moves Silver’s hands as he replaces them with his. “Tell me something I don’t know about you.” Scott suggests.

“My real name is Arthur.” Silver chuckles, “Arthur Silver Argent. Allison and I both go by our middle names.” Scott smiles as he grabs Silver’s hand, “Arthur? I like that. Anything else?” Silver thinks for a second, “Allison tried photography and poetry. I stuck with studying.”

“There has to be something.”

“Just promise not to laugh.”

Silver lead Scott down to the garage as he nervously played with his hands, “So Allison and I were both nationally ranked as kids and our dad really wanted us to go on. Allison didn’t like as much but I loved it.” Silver says, “I stopped a few years ago to focus on school.”

Silver grabs a bow from one of his boxes as he points it at Scott making him jump back. “What is that?” Scott asks scared. “It needs an arrow to be harmful.” Silver tells him laughing. “So, that’s what you’re good at? Archery?” Scott asks nervously.

“You said you wouldn’t laugh!” Silver complains he puts down the bow. “Trust me, I’m not laughing…” Scott says. “I have my crossbow hanging in my room with my awards. I’m surprised you didn’t see it.” Silver says as he notices Scott looking behind him.

Silver sighs as he walks up next Scott, “So, I guess I should explain… We’re not some sort of separatist gun-nut family. My dad sells firearms to law enforcement.” Silver explains awkwardly. “Oh, that’s good. So, um, are you planning on joining the family business?” Scott asks anxiously.

“Guns aren’t my thing.” Silver admits as he wraps is arms around Scott’s neck. “Unless you think I would look hot with a gun?” He asks with a smirk. “Hotter without.” Scott answers and the two lean into kiss when the garage door opens and Silver pulls Scott behind the car.

“Hey, Chris! Get your ass out of the fifties and come help with the groceries!” Kate Argent yells at her brother. “Be right there.” Argent shouts back. Argent walks back behind his car and stares down his son and Scott, “…Kids, you mind helping?” He asks them, “Allison is.”

“Sure!”

“No problem.”

“Great. Thank you.”

🐺

“I tried. I really did but I didn’t think you would leave your room.” Allison whispers to Silver as Scott is still unloading the groceries. Silver sighs as he looks up at Allison, “Why do you have that picture still? With Michael?” He asks but his sister remains quiet. “You tried. Thanks Allison.”

Silver walks outside as Scott takes notice of him and puts his phone away. “Do you still wanna study?” Scott asks him. “He’ll concentrate better on his own.” Argent answers for Silver. Silver rolls his eyes as he turns back to Scott.

“Guess I’ll see you later then?” Scott asks him and Silver nods as his dad answers once more, “At school.” Silver glares at his father as he takes a step towards Scott but his dad stops it again. “You, on your bike. You, inside.” Argent tells them.

“Oh Chris, come on really? They were making out in the garage, not shooting amateur porn.” Kate calls out making Silver actually wanting to hug his aunt for defending him. He looks over at is dad with a smirk and Argent glares at him.

“You, with the adorable brown eyes, drop your bike. You’re staying for dinner.” Kate tells Scott. “Come on you and Allison can help me and your mom.” She tells Silver grabbing his arm and dragging him in the house.

🐺

“Would you like something else to drink besides water, Scott?” Victoria Argent asks as all the Argents plus Scott sit down for dinner. “Oh, I’m good thanks.” Scott answers taking a sip of his drink. “We can get you some beer?” Argent suggests causing Silver to glare at his dad.

“No, thanks.”

“Shot of tequila?”

“Dad, really?” Silver asks trying to stop his dad. Silver looks over across the table as he and Allison share a look. “You don’t drink Scott?” Argent asks him. “I’m not old enough to.” Scott answers almost scared. “That doesn’t seem to stop many teenagers.” Victoria adds on.

“Mom.” Silver hisses. “No but it should.” Scott answers over Silver. “Good answer. A total lie, but well played, Scott. You may yet survive the night.” Kate says with a smile as her and Allison laugh.

“… You ever smoke pot?”

“Okay, changing the channel to something a little less conservative. So, Scott, uh, Silver tells us you’re on the lacrosse team. I’m sorry, I don’t know anything about that. How do you play?” Kate asks making Silver sigh in relief. “Um, well, you know hockey? It’s a lot like that, only, um, played on grass instead of ice.”

“Hockey on grass is called field hockey.” Argent tells him. “Oh. Yeah.” Scott sighs causing Silver to scoff, “So, it’s a lot like field hockey, except the sticks have nets.” Silver says trying to help Scott. “Exactly.” Scott says relieved.

“And can you slap-check like in hockey?” Kate asks him. “Um, yeah. But it’s only the, uh, gloves and the sticks.” Scott tells her. “Sounds violent. I like it.” Kate smirks looking at her niece.

“Scott’s amazing, too. Dad and Allison came with me to the first game. Wasn’t he good?” Silver asks looking at his sister for help. “He was really good.” Allison says. “He was fine.” Argent says irritable.

“He scored the last shot– the winning shot.” Silver says boasting Scott up. “True, but he didn’t score at all until the last few minutes.” Argent says fighting against Silver. “His last shot ripped a hole through the goalie’s net. It was incredible.” Silver says impressed. “Well, I think the goalie was probably playing with a defective stick, so…”

Silver now annoyed slams down his glass of water as his heart starts to beat loudly. His leg bouncing as he tries to calm himself down and suddenly he does when he feels Scott’s hand wrapped in his. “You know, on second thought, um… I think I’ll take that shot of tequila.” Scott jokes nervously.

“…You were kidding, right?”

🐺

“Hey, um, I should get going… Um, thanks for dinner.” Scott says to the Argent family. “Oh, no, no, no, no, no! You have to stay for dessert. I wanna know more about you. Sit down.” Silver looks around the table as he tries to stop any further conversation, “No, we’re good. No further conversation is needed.” Silver stutters afraid.

“So, Scott, is it just Silver you like or are you into other guys?” Kate questions with a smirk. Silver and Allison both drop their forks as they stare wide eyed at each other. “Silver is right, maybe-” Allison tries to say but Kate cuts her off.

“It’s a fair question. Silver came out when he was what, thirteen?” Kate asks causing Silver to slowly nod, “I mean it’s only fair. Did you tell your mom? Your friends? Was it hard for you to come out?” Kate asks.

“I don’t really care for labels. I just like Silver.” Scott tells her as he grabs Silver’s hand causing the Argent boy to blush. “Kate, stop it.” Argent calls out. “What I’m just asking the questions that were failed to ask last time this happened.” Kate says causing Argent to glare at his sister.

“I just like you Silver.”

“Nothing is going on with me and Allison.”

“Don’t you understand that I love you and not her?”

Silver spaces out as he squeezes Scott’s hand tightly. “I seem to remember somebody else saying that too.” Kate says, “I would be careful Silver, he may just move to Allison.” Silver’s eyes tear up as he looks down at his lap and moves his hand away from Scott.

“Maybe I never loved you?”

“You were clingy and annoying and got in the way.”

“I love her and she loves me!”

“I’m guessing you two didn’t have the exes talk yet?” Kate says with a smirk. “I know about Michael.” Scott says causing everyone to stare at him with shock. Allison and Scott both look over to see Silver trying to hold back tears and the girl clears her throat, “Silver told us that you work for veterinarian.”

“Uh, yeah.” Silver looks up, “I told them how you put the cast on the dog I hit.” Silver says giving Scott a smile.

“What does your boss think of the animal attacks? Any theories?” Argent asks Scott. “Everyone was just saying it’s a mountain lion.” Scott says to him. “It’d have to be a pretty large mountain lion…” Kate scoffs.

“What do you think, Scott?” Victoria asks him. “I don’t know… We usually get cats and dogs at the vet. Nothing that vicious.” Scott says anxiously. “Never had to deal with a rabid dog?” Argent asks him.

“Oh, I grew up with a lot of dogs. I saw one get rabies from a bat. It was transferred through the bite. You know, people think that a rabid dog suddenly goes mad. It’s a lot more gradual. First stage is subtle changes in behavior– they’re restless, morose. It’s the second stage that people know– the furious phase. That’s when they attack. And we’re talking any moving object. Did you know that a caged rabid dog will break its own teeth trying to chew through the bars? It’ll even rear back and snap its own spine. Can you imagine the amount of force it would take to do that? It’s a complete character reversal. This harmless animal… turned into a perfectly vicious killer. And it all started with that one bite.”

“But it died, didn’t it?” Allison asks him. “Yes, because your grandfather shot it.” Victoria tells her. “Because he wanted to put it out of its misery?” Silver asks him. “Because it was too dangerous. Something that out of control is better off dead.” Argent says.

🐺

“I’m sorry about dinner.” Silver says as he walks Scott to the door, “My Aunt Kate went to far. And bringing up what you are and Michael and-” Scott cuts Silver off as he grabs his hand. “I like you Silver, a lot. Whatever happened to Michael, it’s not going to happen to us. But am I ever going to know?”

“Maybe one day.”

“Uh, I have to ask Scott something….” Kate says surprising the couple at the door. “Me?” Scott asks surprised. “Yeah, you.” Kate says as everyone joins them. “Okay…”

“Uh… what’d you take from my bag?” Kate asks him. “What?” Scott asks alarmed. “My bag. What’d you take from it? Do you need me to repeat the question? Maybe enunciate more clearly?” Kate crosses her arms staring the teenager down.

“What are you talking about?” Argent asks her. “My bag was open in the guest room, and when I left it, it was shut. And Scott comes in to use the bathroom, he leaves, my bag’s open…”

“He didn’t take—”

Something was taken from my bag. Now, look– I hate to be the accuser here, Scott, because I really do love those adorable brown eyes… but I don’t know if you’re a klepto, if you’re curious, or-or if you’re just stupid. But answer the question– what did you take?” Kate accuses him.

“Nothing. I swear.” Scott answers anxiously. “You don’t mind proving it, do you?” Kate asks causing Silver to huff. “How about you show us what’s in your pockets?” Kate asks him. “Dad?” Silver looks up to his father, hoping for help. “Come on, Scott. Prove me wrong.” Kate eggs on Scott.

“Uh, I’ll prove you wrong. Uh, it wasn’t Scott going through your bags– It was me.” Silver says angrily. “You?” Kate asks him. “Mmhmm. Me.” Silver says confidently as he holds out a condom.

🐺

“I don’t know why I kept the photo.” Allison says softly as she walks into her brother’s room later that night. “I thought maybe that if you found someone again you can remember how he acted. I really don’t know Silver.” She takes a seat next to him on his bed as he stares at the photo.

“Why did you do it?” Silver asks her quietly, “Why Allison?” Allison sighs as tears form in her eyes, “I don’t know. But I see the way Scott looks at you and it’s not like Michael looked at you, it’s filled with happiness and love. He never looked at you that way.”

“No instead he looked at you that way.” Silver spit out throwing the photo at the wall and the twins flinch hearing it shatter. “Kate and mom wanted him in our lives so badly that they helped you hide the fact that you were sleeping with my boyfriend. They didn’t care about me. They didn’t care about anything.”

Silver stands up now angry, “My scars are from years of people picking on me and I thought I found somebody who could save me but he just broke me more.” Allison stands up as tears fall down her face, “I said I was sorry. I’m trying to make up for it.”

“Allison.” Both twins look up to see their dad standing at Silver’s door. “I think it’s time you go to bed.” Allison quickly leaves the room as Argent walks in and brings Silver into a hug, “It’s okay. I got you Silver. I got you.” He whispers rubbing his son’s back as Silver cries into his dad’s shoulders.
