Chapter 7
Silver Argent was never fond of his birthdays. His birthday’s were always filled of bad memories and his sister having friends over while he and his dad would do something fun. He remembers his thirteenth birthday where his once favorite day turned into his least favorite day. Only a few days before did someone catching him kissing his first boyfriend and then nobody showed up at his party.
Silver looked up from his desk at the sound of someone knocking on his door to see his sister and aunt walking into his room. “Sure, a closed door totally means come in.” He muttered as Allison took a seat on his bed and Kate stood in front of them. He wasn’t totally ignoring his sister and aunt but they weren’t his favorite people right now.
“Hey, listen… You know I feel totally horrible about my behavior the other night, right?” Kate said to the twins. “Oh, totally forgotten.” Silver muttered sarcastically earning an eye roll from his sister and aunt. “Come on! Call me a “horrid bitch” or something!” Kate said to him.
Silver didn’t answer as he looked up to see Kate staring at him. He sighed as he stood up and walked over to where the broken picture frame was still on the floor. He brushed off the glass as he picked up the photo and walked over to his sister. “You might want this.” He told her as Allison glanced down at it.
“Why are you here Aunt Kate?” Silver asked turning back to her with his arms crossed. “I’m giving you your birthday present early, so you’ll forgive her.” She said handing each twin a box. Allison quickly started to open hers and Kate shook a box in front of Silver’s face. “Come on Silver, you don’t have to forgive me but just take the gift.”
Silver sighed as he grabbed the box and he pulled out a necklace with a wolf on it. He looked over to see Allison with a matching one. “I love it!” Allison said standing up and hugging her tightly. Silver rubbed his finger over the wolf as he stared down at it.
“They are family heirlooms. And, you know me– I hate and loathe all sentimental crap– but that? Well, look at the symbol in the middle of the pendant. See that?” Kate pointed it out them. “You ever wanna learn a little something about your family? Look it up.”
“You’re gonna make us work for it.” Silver said as he put it on. Kate smirked as she walked over to her nephew and adjusted the necklace on him, “Some mysteries… are worth the effort.” She told him quietly.
🐺
Silver walked into his school as he glanced down at his necklace with curious eyes. It was strange to him to have a family heirloom but yet never seen it before. He felt like he has seen this before but he just can’t picture it. He sighs as he tries to forget about it and walks up to his locker, opening it and jumping back.
“No, no, no.” He mutters as he pushes balloons back in his locker. “I hate you Lydia Martin.” He hissed out seeing the birthday card. “Is today your birthday?” Scott asked walking up to his boyfriend to see balloons escaping his locker.
“No, no. Uh, no.” Silver told him trying to grab the balloons but sighed as one started floating away, “…I mean, yes. Please don’t tell anybody. I don’t even know how Lydia found out.” Silver shut his locker as he placed his head against it. “Why wouldn’t you tell me?” Scott asked, upset.
Silver looked over at Scott hesitantly, “Because I don’t want people to know… Because… I’m seventeen…” He admitted. “You’re seventeen?” Scott asked surprised. “That’s the reaction I’m trying to avoid.” Silver told him with his eyes closed.
“Why? I mean, I-I totally get it. Uh, you had to repeat a year because of all the moving around, right?” Scott said to him and Silver quickly moved pressing his lips against Scott’s. Scott pulled back, shocked , “…What was that for?”
“For literally being the first person to ever make the correct assumption. Everybody’s always like, “What, did you get held back?” “Did you ride the short bus?” Uh, “Did your parents send you away?”” Silver ranted off as he grabbed Scott’s hands. “That’s what you hear on your birthday?” Scott asks him appalled.
Silver laughs as he throws his head back, “All day long. And besides I don’t really celebrate my birthday.” He said shrugging. He looked over to see Allison talking to a group of her friends. He knew that Allison probably told Lydia it was their birthday and Lydia told others. Allison was the opposite of Silver, she loved her birthday.
“Then… what if we got out of here?” Scott said breaking his trance. “Skip – skip class?” Silver asked unsure. “Yeah! The whole day.”
“Well, you’re asking someone who’s never skipped one class to bail out the entire day, and I don’t—” Silver started to say but Scott interjected him, “No, see, that’s perfect! If you get caught, they’ll go easy on you.”
Silver let Scott start to drag him out before he stopped and cocked an eye at him, “Well, what if you get caught?”
“Let’s… try not to think about that.”
Silver quickly unlocked his car sending a quick text to his sister that she’ll need another ride home. He quickly got into the driver’s seat as he tapped the steering wheel nervously, “Uh, maybe this is a bad idea… And my dad would kill me if he found out…”
“Do you always follow your dad’s rules?” Scott asked him amused. “Not lately.” Silver answered quietly. “Good. Start the car.” Scott told him. Silver started the car and the nerves came back. He wanted to do something for his birthday for once, it was his day too. The last time someone did this- he stopped those thoughts right away.
“Where are we going?” Silver asked looking over at Scott. “Uh, I don’t know. Somewhere. Anywhere.” Scott answered as he looked around. “Nowhere I can be seen, right? ‘Cause I could get detention.” Silver told him anxiously.
“Please start the car.”
“Or suspended.”
“Silver? Car? Start? Now?”
🐺
Silver leans back in his seat as the sun shines on him driving. He felt free. He felt like himself for the first time in years. He actually enjoyed this moment even if Scott was on the phone and he was the one that pulled him out of school.
“What?” Scott asked over the phone trying to whisper. “Finally! Have you been getting any of my texts?” Stiles asked him. Scott glanced over to Silver giving him a smile before glancing back the other way, “Yeah, like, all nine million of them…”
“Do you have any idea what’s going on? Lydia is totally MIA, Jackson looks like he’s got a time bomb inserted in his face, another random guy’s dead, and you have to do something about it!”
“Like what?”
“Something!”
“Okay, I’ll deal with it later.” Scott hung up as he quickly looked at where they were, “Left, left, left, left, left!” Silver quickly turned the car as he placed his hand on top of Scott’s chest so the boy wouldn’t fly out of his seat.
Silver pulled away chuckling as he glanced over to Scott, “Sorry, sorry! I totally soccer-mom’d you. I’m sorry.” Scott smiled as he chuckled along with Silver. “That’s all right. I’ll just pick up my masculinity on the way back.”
Silver drove up the road as Scott got out of the car and helped Silver out of his seat. Silver followed Scott as the two walked through the woods and Silver took out his phone. He kept staring at the blank screen. His dad texted him telling him happy birthday but that was it.
“…You’re still not okay with this, are you?” Scott asked him. Silver put his phone away shrugging, “I feel like I need an alibi.” Silver admitted. “Well, if we get caught, I’ll just say it was my fault.”
“You don’t need to take the blame for me. It was my choice, too.” Silver told him, “I can totally be badass if I want too.” Scott nodded as he turned to Silver, “Oh, good! ‘Cause if we get caught, I’m totally gonna blame you.” He said jokingly.
“Oh, really?”
“Hell yeah! And they’d believe me. You know, totally hot boy asks you to skip the day with him? Like I’m gonna say no!” Scott said making Silver laugh. “So, you throw me under the bus, just like that?” Silver asked as he pursed his lips.
“Yeah! Throw, push, shove…”
“And what if I decide to drag you down with me?” Silver grabs Scott’s sweatshirt pulling them closer as they stop walking. “I’d just yell for help.” Scott moved closer to Silver. “Well, what if I did this?” Silver leaned forward connecting their lips for a quick kiss.
“I’d scream for help.” Scott said when Silver pulled away. “And if I did this?” Silver whispered once again pulling Scott in for a kiss. He wrapped his arms around Scott’s neck as the boy’s hand cupped Silver’s cheeks. He melted into the kiss as the day’s worries just washed away.
It was his day.
“I’d beg for mercy.” Scott said to him, pulling away. Silver kisses his cheek as he pulls Scott away. Scott follows Silver as he wraps his arms around the boy’s waist. The boys were quiet as they walked and Scott kept glancing over at Silver. Silver could feel the curiosity flowing off Scott as he turned around, “What’s going on?” He asks softly.
Scott shakes his head as Silver cups Scott’s cheeks, “Scott? You were happy earlier than all of a sudden you just got quiet.” Silver frowned almost in fear. “Can you just tell me what happened with Michael?” Scott asked, “What did your aunt mean about running off to Allison?”
Silver sighed as he closed his eyes, “It’s a long story. A long, sad and embarrassing story for me.” Scott grabbed Silver’s hand making the boy look up at him. Silver nodded as he took a step back and gulped nervously.
“Everything was perfect with Michael.” Silver started off slowly. “It was cheesy how we started, you know? He was the quarterback and I was the new kid. He asked me out after his first game and it was perfect.”
“I feel a but coming up.” Scott chimed in making Silver nod and take a deep breath. “I love my sister, she’s like my other half so I was thrilled when they started to hang out. We were the three best friends, hence the photo but behind my back I didn’t realize that Michael was falling in love with Allison and she was doing the same. He would take me for ice cream and she would go out for ice cream. Parties were a bigger deal because he would start with me and then tell me he got sick or Allison was sick and they would leave. My mom and Kate loved him so once they found out by walking in on them, they kept it a secret.”
“How did you find out?”
“I was waiting for his practice to start just to wish him luck. A teammate of his came up to me and asked to find him for them and I walked in on them in the Coach’s office.” Silver whispered with tears in his eyes. He wiped a single tear away before chuckling and looking over at Scott. “Allison and I talked when we heard we were moving here that we would put him behind us and never let a boy get between us.”
Scott and Silver stopped by a bridge and Scott just stared at Silver’s peaceful face. The wind blew his curls back and his face was red from the breeze. Silver tilted his head back as he let the wind hit him.
“I thought he was it for me.” Silver said as he looked towards Scott, “But I was wrong.” Scott nods as he pulls Silver into a kiss. “Oh I was so wrong.” Silver pulled away with a smile.
Silver never really liked his birthdays, but he really liked this one.
🐺
Silver held on tightly to Scott’s hand as the two walked back to his car. The smile on his face as he looks back on the wonderful day with the perfect guy. He didn’t want to let this moment go and nobody could blame him.
“So, being completely honest? This was kind of a perfect birthday.” Silver said as soon as the two got in the car. “Good. I’d know if you were lying, anyway.” Scott said smiling causing Silver to chuckle, “Oh, really?”
“You have a tell. You scrunch up your nose.” Silver furrows his brows as he shakes his head, “Let’s see if you can figure out if I’m lying now. I wish that my parents weren’t coming home from the teacher conferences so I could spend the rest of the day with you.”
“The rest of the day?” Scott asked frowning. “Well, the rest of the night.” Silver admitted as his face started turning red. “With me?” Scott asked before realizing the time, “Oh, God. The parent-teacher conferences– I’m supposed to be there. Ugh, I’m below C on, like, everything.”
“Well, they’re going on now. Right now.”
🐺
“Silver, answering your cell phone will make discussing the terms of your grounding much easier… Well, call me back before your punishment reaches biblical proportions.” Argent says over the phone calling his son after hearing that he skipped today.
“Kate hasn’t heard from him, either.” Victoria Argent says anxiously. “He doesn’t do this.” Argent muttered as his nerves started to go haywire. He was correct that Silver doesn’t do this, not after last time. Not after everything.
“Excuse me, you’re not Silver’s parents, are you? I’m Scott’s mom, and I hate to say it, but he’s not answering his phone, either.” Melissa McCall says walking up to the Argents. “You’re his mother?” Argent asks.
“Funny how you say that like it’s an accusation…” Melissa says accusingly. “Well, I wouldn’t claim it as a source of pride, since he basically kidnapped my son today.” Argent hissed at her. “How do we know skipping school wasn’t your son’s idea?”
“My son—” Argent says as he spots his son’s car, “…Is right there. Let’s go.”
Silver groaned as he spot his dad and mom walking up to his car. Silver and Scott quickly got out of the car as they both rushed up to their parents. “Where exactly have you been?” Melissa yells at her son. “Nowhere, Mom.” Scott sighs.
“Nowhere… meaning not school?”
“…Kinda…”
“It’s not his fault. It’s my birthday, and we were— he was just—” Silver started to say trying to help out Scott but his dad cut him off, “Silver. In the car.” Before Silver can argue a heard is scream and everyone starts to rush around.
Silver looks around as he tries to understand what his happening. He slowly follows his dad as he walks around the parking lot trying to figure out why people are yelling but the sight of paws on the ground make him back up.
“Silver!” Scott screams as he sees a car heading straight for Silver. Silver looks back, scared as he stops in the middle of the road. Scott quickly rushes up and grabs him pushing him away towards the side. “Are you okay?” Scott asks him and Silver nods as his mother rushes up to him. “Come on.” Victoria says but Silver pushes her away, “I don’t want your help. I want dad.” He mutters as he rushes away.
“Move! Move!” Stilinski yells as he tries to help out but he misses the car coming at him as he falls to the ground. Silver pushes past the group of people as gun shots are heard. He stops at his dad as he sees a mountain lion laying on the ground.
“Dad?” He asks looking at his father, “What did you do?” Argent sighs as he glances at his son.
