Chapter 8
Silver tries to hide a chuckle as he sees the surprise look on Scott’s face as he falls back on the bed. Silver crawls on top of Scott as he leans down pulling him into a kiss. Scott’s hand travel ups the back of Silver’s back pushing his shirt up.
Silver quickly flips the two around as Scott places his hand on Silver’s cheek as one of his hands creep on his back, sliding under his shirt. “Take it off.” Silver whispers pulling away from him. “…You’re okay with that?” Scott asks hesitantly.
“Are you okay with that?” Silver asks amused. Scott grins as he sits up and strips his shirt before he tries to do the same with Silver. Silver stops him as he moves Scott off of him. “Hey, are you okay?” Scott asks quietly.
Silver nods as he looks down at his hands embarrassed, “I want to. I really do but it’s not going to be pretty under there. There’s still a lot I haven’t told you from my past and I don’t want you to be disgusted.” Scott picks up Silver’s head as he looks in his eyes.
He leans forward connecting their lips for a quick second. “You’re beautiful Silver.” He whispers as he pulls Silver’s shirt off of him. Silver closes his eyes as Scott kisses down his arms, hitting everyone scar the boy has.
Silver smile is huge as Scott looks up at him and he has tears in his eyes. He leans forward connecting their lips once more as their bare chests are laying on top of each other. Silver moans into Scott’s mouth as he reaches down for his belt.
“Silver?”
Silver groans as he hears his aunt’s voice outside his door. “Just a second!” He shouts as he and Scott quickly get off the bed. The knocking continues as Silver quickly hands Scott his shirt and opens his closet door.
“Uh, coming!” He shouts once more as he pushes Scott in and shuts the door. Silver runs up to the door and quickly notices he doesn’t have a shirt on. “Shit.” He mutters. “Silver.” Kate calls out and Silver quickly opens the door.
Kate furrows her eyebrows staring at Silver, “Are you busy?” She asks and Silver shakes his head. “I was just about to get in the shower.” He says to her as they walk into his room. He picks up his shirt as he slips it on, “What can I do for you?”
“I wanted to see what you were doing.” She says as Silver takes a seat at his desk. “I was just finishing up homework, avoiding my sister, sending some emails…” He trails off. “Emailing the boyfriend?” Kate asks amused.
“No, I’m emailing the PETA about how my father gunned down a mountain lion in the school parking lot.” Silver states rolling his eyes. “And that wouldn’t have anything to do with the fact that you’re grounded and you can’t see Scott?” Kate sighs asking him.
“I’m not gonna be one of those whining teenagers who looks at her father and says, “I hate you, I wish you were dead.”” Silver answers stubbornly.
“But…?”
“But… I hate him, and I wish he was dead.” Silver mutters earning a smile from Kate. “See? Now you’re starting to sound like a normal, angry teenager! What are you working on? Can I help?” Kate asks him giggling.
“Uh, a history project… and I just wanna be left alone, actually…” Silver says turning back to his computer. “Come on! What kind of history project? I want to be here for you Silver. I want to make up for my mistakes with he who shall not be named.”
Silver sighs as he looks out in the hallway to see Allison walking by his room. “I have to come up with a report that has some relevance to my own family history.” Silver answers Kate. “Specific to your family?” Kate questions.
“Do you have any ideas? Or at least know what Allison is doing so we don’t hand in the same project… again.” Silver asks. “Type this in– La Bête du Gévaudan.” Kate tells him. Silver furrows his brows as he starts to type, “”The Beast of Gevaudan.” What is this?”
“It’s an old French legend that, believe it or not, has something to do with your family.” Kate says. “”In 1766, in a province of Lozere, La Bête killed over a hundred people.”” Silver reads out loud. “Mysterious animal attacks… Just like a certain town called Beacon Hills…?” Kate says.
“So, what was it? The animal?” Silver questions. “Nobody knows for sure, but I can tell you one thing– it definitely wasn’t a mountain lion. What’s it look like to you?”
“It looks like… a wolf.”
🐺
Silver sits at lunch the next day at school with Lydia across from him. He can’t help but stare at Scott, who is hiding from him – or he is trying to hide from Silver. Lydia moves into his line of sight with a confused look on her face.
“What are you doing?” She asks him. Silver shrugs as he picks up his apple, “We’re waiting for Allison. She’s trying to keep the peace between us and find me a book for the history project.” Silver says causing Lydia to sigh. “I meant why are you staring at your boyfriend.”
Silver sighs as he glances between Stiles, Scott and Lydia. “He’s been avoiding me.” He admits softly. “We were, we were, you know, or about to and he saw,” Silver trails off as he motions his chest and arms, “them. Then after that, he just stopped talking to me.”
“So, you’re worried about what?” Lydia questions. “Maybe he finds them weird, or maybe I’m suddenly unattractive or maybe he is-” Silver is cut off as Allison joins the table. “Hey, sorry. The library line was really long.” She says handing Silver a book, “I did start looking through it thought and bookmarked the pages that are interesting.”
Lydia nods slowly as Silver gives his sister a thankful smile and he looks it over. “Okay, yeah. Thanks Allison, I can work with this. The Beast of Gevaudan.-”
“The what of who?” Lydia cuts him off. “The Beast of Gevaudan. Listen- “A quadruped wolf-like monster, prowling the Auvergne and south Dordogne areas of France during the year 1764 to 1767. La Bête killed over a hundred people, becoming so infamous that the King Louis XV sent one of his best hunters to try and kill it.”
“Boring.” Lydia sighs as she looks at her salad. “Even the Church eventually declared the monster a messenger of Satan.” Silver continues reading.
“Still boring.”
“Cryptozoologists believe it may have been a subspecies of hoofed predator, possibly a mesonychid…”
“Slipping-into-a-coma bored.”
“While others believe it was a powerful sorcerer who could shapeshift into a man-eating monster.” Silver finishes reading as he looks up at Lydia. He glances over to his sister hearing her trying to hide a laugh.
“Any of this have anything to do with your family?” Lydia asks him. Silver holds up his hand as he looks down the page and Allison reaches over pointing to a paragraph. “Ah, thanks. ‘”It is believe that La Bête was finally trapped and killed by a renowned hunter who claimed his wife and four children were the first to fall prey to the creature.” His name was Argent.” He reads to Lydia.
Lydia waves around a piece of lettuce on her fork, “Your ancestors killed a big wolf. So what?” She asks unimpressed. “Not just a big wolf. Take a look at this picture. What does it look like to you?” Silver questions turning the book around.
Allison furrows her brows noticing the look on Lydia’s face. “Lydia? …Lydia?” She questions slowly. “It looks… like a big… wolf. See you in history.” Lydia stands up and walks over to Silver. She leans down and pulls him into a hug, “Talk to him.” She says before leaving the cafeteria.
Silver sighs as he shuts the book and stares at Scott once more. “What did she mean?” Allison asks Silver. Silver shrugs as he keeps his eyes on Scott who is still behind a textbook. “Scott is avoiding me. He saw the scars.” He muttered.
“Oh, Silver.” Allison sighs placing a hand on her brother’s bicep. Silver looks back at his sister giving a fake smile. “It’s okay. I just gotta do the opposite of what I did with Michael, right?” He asks and Allison cocks her eyebrow, confused. “I gotta not ignore the signs. I gotta ask him.”
Silver looks over to see Scott, now alone looking straight at him. Scott quickly gets up and runs out of the cafeteria. “Like now. Love ya.” Silver shouts to Allison as he grabs his bag and rushes after Scott. “Scott? Hey, Scott!”
Scott runs into the bathroom and Silver stops suddenly. “Wait, a second.” He says to himself as he rushes in. “Scott?” He asks looking around. “Hey, if you’re in here, I just – I just want to say sorry.” Silver calls out sighing.
He looks over to the window to see it open and he frowns. “And I’m talking to myself. Once again.” He whispers sadly. Unknown to him that Scott is standing outside listening to him leave.
🐺
Scott and Stiles are standing outside on the lacrosse field. “Put this on.” Stile says to Scott handing him a heart monitor, “…Isn’t this one of the heart rates monitors for the track team?” Scott asked and Stiles nodded, “Yeah I borrowed it.”
“Stole it.” Scott corrected him. “Temporarily misappropriated! Coach uses it to monitor his heart rate with his phone while he jogs, and you’re gonna wear it for the rest of the day.” Stiles hold up a cell phone is his hand. “Isn’t’ that Coach’s phone?” Scott asks him.
“That… I stole.”
“Why?” Scott questions. “All right, well, your heart rate goes up when you go wolf, right? When you’re playing lacrosse, when you’re with Silver, whenever you get angry. Maybe learning to control it is tied to learning to control your heart rate.” Stiles explains to him.
“Like the Incredible Hulk.” Scott says, “Okay, yeah it’s like the Incredible Hulk.”
“No, I’m like the Incredible Hulk.” Stiles pinches the bridge of his nose “Would you shut up and put the strap on?”
“This isn’t exactly how I wanted to spend my free period…” Scott says as he puts the strap on and Stiles pulls out a roll of duct tape from his bag. He starts to tape Scott’s hands together behind his back.
Scott turns around as Stiles picks up a lacrosse stick. “All right, you ready?” Stiles asks Scott, backing up a little “Don’t get angry.” Stiles calls out before he shovels a lacrosse ball up and swings it at Scott, right at his stomach. Stiles tries once more and this time hits Scott’s face. “Oh! Okay, that one kind of hurt.”
“Quiet. Remember you are supposed to be thinking about your heart rate, all right? Stay calm.”
“Stay calm. Staying completely calm. No balls are flying at my face.” Scott tells himself right before Stiles throws a ball at Scott’s shoulder. “Son of a bitch!”
“You know what? I think my aim is actually improving.” Stiles says with a cocky smile on his face. “I wonder why.”
“Don’t get angry.” Stiles says mocking Scott before throwing another ball hitting him in his stomach again, “I’m not getting angry.”
Ball after ball Stiles hits Scott everywhere he can, most of Stiles hitting Scott where it hurts. “Stop just wait. Hold on.” Scott says right before Stiles throws another one causing Scott to fall to the ground.
The phone starts to beep alerting Stiles that the heart rate is going up. He looks down to see the heart rate over 160. “Scott?” Stiles calls out as he slowly approaches him. Scott starts to break free from the duct tape making Stiles jump back.
Scott then fell to the floor out of breath as Stiles walked over to him. “Scott you started to change.” Stiles says to Scott. “From anger.” Scott groans out. “But it was more than that, it was like the angrier I got the stronger I felt.”
“So, it is anger, then. Derek’s right.”
“I can’t be around Silver.”
“Just because he makes you happy?”
“No because he makes me weak.”
🐺
“All right. You stay away from her for a few days. You can do that.” Stiles says as he puts away lacrosse equipment. “But is it a few days, or is it forever?” Scott asks sadly.
“You know, this whole “love make you weak”-thing is a little too Spartan warrior for me. It’s probably just part of the learning process.” Stiles admits. Scott throws up a lacrosse ball before catching it, “Yeah, but you’ve seen Derek. I mean, the guy’s totally alone. What if I can, like, never be around him again? He already feels like he’s alone so now with me avoiding him after being honest and open with me, it might kill him.”
“Well, if you’re not dead, that could be a good thing…”
“I’d rather be dead.”
“All right, you’re not gonna end up like Derek, all right? We’ll figure it out.” Stiles tells him, “Come on. Let’s get out of here.” Scott nods as he stands up, “Something smells terrible in here, anyway.”
“Really? In a boys’ locker room? That doesn’t make any sense at all.”
“No, it’s like something’s rotting, or dying.”
🐺
Silver walks through the halls trying to catch a glimpse of Scott or maybe Stiles. He has a feeling that the Stilinski boy is easier to crack. He stops suddenly down the hall to see Allison talking to Jackson. “What the?” He questions before turning around.
He walks down the hall quickly back into boys bathroom as he leans against the sink. He closes his eyes as he tries to calm himself down.
“Come on Argent! Don’t you want to play?”
Silver quickly turns on the sink as he splashes water on his face. “Everything is fine. We’re fine.” He says to himself. Silver quickly looks down to see a red scar peeking out on his left wrist.
“What were your instructions? Just stand, aim and shoot?”
Silver holds back a scream as the bell rings.
🐺
“Let’s go! Sit, sit, sit, sit. We got a lot to cover today. Let’s go! Quicker!” Coach screams at the kids rushing into his classroom. “Hey, Stiles. Sit behind me, dude.” Scott whispers grabbing a seat in the front row.
Stiles quickly tries to grab the seat from the other side of the row as Allison places her books on the seat. “Sorry, I promised Silver I would save him a seat.” She says to Stiles. Silver walks into the classroom waving her brother over as he looks between the three of them. “I saved you a seat.” Allison says before taking the seat behind him.
“Can – can you move your foot?” Silver asks Stiles. Stiles nods as he moves his foot and takes the seat next to Silver. “Sorry about that.” He whispers and Silver nods. Allison leans up and pinches the back of Silver causing him to yelp.
Silver sighs as he leans forward to Scott, “I haven’t seen you all day.” He admits to Scott. “Uh, yeah, I’ve been, uh, super busy…” Scott tells him nervously. Silver nods as he taps Scott’s shoulder once more. “When are you gonna get your phone fixed? I feel like I’m totally disconnected from you.”
“Uh, soon. Real soon.” Scott tells him nervously. “I changed lab partners, by the way.” Silver says, “But I might want to change them back-” Silver yelps once more as Allison kicks his desk. “Oh, to who?” Scott asks.
“To you.”
“Me? I mean, are you sure?” Scott asks surprised. “Yeah! This way, I have an excuse to bring you home and study. You don’t mind, do you?” Silver asks him. “I just– I don’t want to bring your grade down…” Scott admits to him.
“Well, I mean, maybe I can bring your grade up. Come to my place tonight. Eight-thirty?” Silver asks now a smile on his face. “Tonight?” Scott asks again. “Eight-thirty.” Silver says leaning back in his seat. Allison hums in satisfaction for her brother.
“Let’s start with a quick summary of last night’s reading.” Coach says to the class, “Greenburg, put your hand down.”
“How about, uh… McCall.”
“What?”
“The reading.” Coach explains sitting on his desk, “Last night’s reading?”
“How about, uh, the reading of the Gettysburg Address?” The whole class laughs as Scott questions him. “That’s sarcasm. Are you familiar with the term ‘sarcasm’, McCall?” Scott turns around and looks at Stiles, “Very.”
“Did you do the reading or not?” Coach asks getting impatient as Scott admits to not doing it. “Nice work McCall. It’s not like you’re not averaging a ‘D’ in this class. Come on, buddy. You know I can’t keep you on the team if you have a ‘D’.” Stiles looks down to hear beeping coming from the phone.
“How about you summarize, uh, the previous night’s reading? No? How about the, uh, the night before that? How about you summarize anything you ever read in your entire life?” Coach starts to get impatient.
“No? A blog? How about, uh, how about, uh, the back of a cereal box? No? How about the adults only warning from your favorite website you visit every night? Anything?” Silver leans forward as he grabs Scott’s hand and softly rubs his fingers across his knuckles.
“Thank you, McCall, thank you.” Coach pounds on his desk getting angrier, “Thank you McCall! Thank you for extinguishing any last flicker of hope I have for your generation. You just blew it for everybody. Thanks, next practice you can start with suicide runs. Unless that’s too much reading.”
Stiles looks down to see the heart rate going down.
🐺
“It’s Silver.” Scott looks at Stiles confused as they leave the classroom, “Remember what you told us about the night of the full moon? You were thinking about him, right? About protecting him. The night of the first lacrosse game? You said you could hear his voice out on the field.”
“Yeah I did.” Scott nods, “That’s what brought you back so you could score. Then after the game in the locker room, you didn’t kill him. At least not like how you tried to kill me. He brings you back, like an anchor.”
“No, no, no, that’s not always true, because literally every time I’m kissing him or – or touching him,” Stiles cuts him off “No, that’s not the same. When you’re doing that, you’re just another hormonal teenager thinking about sex, you know?”
“You’re thinking about sex right now, aren’t you?” Stiles speaks up as he looks at Scott with a now faraway look on his face. “Yeah. Sorry.” Stiles looks away disgusted, “That’s fine.” Stiles says, “Look back in the classroom when he was holding your hand that was different okay? Silver doesn’t make you weak, I think he gives you control.”
“You mean because I love him.” Scott says quickly “Exactly.” Stiles agrees, “Did I just say that?” Scott asks surprised, “Yes, you just said that.” Stiles sighs getting annoyed. “I love him.”
“That’s great. Now moving on” Stiles says “No, no, no really. I think I’m totally in love with him.” Scott says with a smile on his face. “And that’s beautiful. Now before you go off and write a sonnet, can we figure this out, please? Because you obviously can’t be around him all the time.” Stiles says getting fed up.
“Yeah, sorry. So, what do I do?” Scott sighs he glances up at Stiles, “You’re getting an idea, right?” Scott asks. “Yeah,” Stiles says looking away “Is this idea gonna get me in trouble?”
“Maybe”
“Is this idea gonna cause me physical pain?” Stiles nods, “Yeah, definitely. Come on.”
🐺
Walking outside, Stiles brings Scott to the parking lot, “What are we doing?” Scott asks confused “You’ll see. Hold on.”
Stiles brings him to a stop, “Okay, you stay right there.” Stiles says as he stands in front of Scott, “Do you have your keys?” Scott nods as he grabs his keys, “Perfect. Now you just hold them like so. Now whatever happens just think about Silver. Just try to find his voice like you did at the game.”
Stiles takes out his car keys as he walks up to the truck and keys the side. “Hey, hey, hey, dude! What do you think you’re doing to that truck bro?” Stiles calls out as a group of guys look over. “What the hell?” They shout at Scott.
Stiles flinches as he watches the group of guys start to beat him up. “Ow! My God. Wow.” Stiles gasps, Stay calm. Stay calm.” Stiles mutters as he looks down to see his heart rate rising. “Oh, that’s not okay. Scott, come on, buddy…”
Scott tries to focus on finding Silver as he also struggles with staying calm.
“I’m just studying with a friend, dad. Yeah, that friend.” Silver says on the phone. “I promise you that nothing is going to happen, I don’t even know if he wants something to happen anymore.”
Silver sighs as he watches his sister and Lydia start to talk at a table outside waiting for him. “You may have been right, you can also tell mom she was right. I’ll talk to him tonight, okay? If he doesn’t feel comfortable I’m not going to hang on – not again. I’ll talk to you later, I love you.”
“Hey, stop it right now.” Harris says as he comes over to Scott. “What do you idiots think you’re doing?” He says looking at Scott as Scott looks over Stiles. Stiles looks down at the phone to see Scott’s heart rate back down to normal.
🐺
Silver drops his backpack in his room after school. He closes his door softly as he sighs and places his head against it. He didn’t see Scott the rest of the day. He did see Scott running the other way when Silver was walking towards him. He did see Scott pull Stiles down a different hallway. He saw the frightened look in his face when he looked at Silver.
Silver walked towards his bathroom as he stripped off his sweater and shirt. He stared at himself in the mirror covered in scars. Tears filled his eyes as he saw the ugliness that he tried to cover up.
“Silver? Are you there?”
Silver wiped away his tears as he cleared his throat. “Yeah, I’m in here dad.”
