the garden
“You burned it.”
“Ahh, f*ck me!” I curse as Glass once again freezes the flower, as the result of me failing to thaw it out. This is my third day being mentored by him and I haven’t gone through the first lesson of melting ice off a rose.
“I will, but we need to defrost the flower, puppy. Don’t make flames, you’re making fire. We need warm.” His two-toned eyes blink softly at me as the flower awaits.
I am so frustrated: “How am I supposed to make warm when I can’t even feel warm as a vampire?!”
Glass stood from the tree stump to pull my collar to face me. With a harsh kiss on my lips, our mouth press against each other which shocked me to the core. One bite, and it was all over for me, I embarrassingly combusted in arousal. Glass felt it, pulling away and tilting his head.
“You are on fire now. That’s how you did it.” Glass suddenly slapped my d*ck, which made me yell in pain and curl up.
“Ow! What’d you do that for—-ahh… “
“HAHAHAHA! Do it again for two points!” Salve laughed while sitting on a rock, embarrassing me even more. Him and his red sweater is hard to miss against the foliage of the garden.
“Ahh…” I stood on my feet as the pain dies down, and so did my erection. “I can’t do this, Glass. It’s been a few days and I still can’t melt ice off a d*mn flower. I’m never gonna control the Sheltering, I doubt even have it.”
Glass approached me once again, but this time pushing me so my back is firmly against a tree. I internally panicked, especially when his seductive eyes glaze mine. “G-Glass…”
Softly pinning me there, Glass hovers his lips on mine, breathing on it as if testing the waters. His slender, delicate hands crawl to my stomach; up, slowly, until it reaches my chest. Then, one by one, undid my button from top, to…
“We can’t feel warmth… but we can still make it, puppy…” The older vampire says, pressing his lips ever so softly against the corner of my mouth. Not exactly kissing, but it made me turn my head for more of those lips. “No.”
He rejected me coldly. I find myself searching more of him, much to Salve’s disappointment. “Wh-what are you doing, then?”
“You don’t deserve a kiss,” Glass mutters, making me stare at him with glistening eyes. Then, as sweet as the apple that doomed humanity through eve, Glass released a breathy moan in front of me, all while our breaths mingle.
I was mesmerized; not by the Sheltering, but by Glass’ plump lips on my face. I tried to lean in for a kiss, but the hand on my chest pressed me back against the tree as if I’m not allowed.
“No fire. No kiss,” Glass whispers like a forbidden lover. “Passion is fiery, you take pleasure from it. Warmth is… yearning, desire, without acting up on it. I want you to yearn for me, Puppy. Don’t you want to kiss me? Don’t you want your mouth on my skin glazed with saline sweat and take the blood under it? It’s waiting for you…”
I released a breath I’ve been holding ever since Glass popped the first button. Salve sat there, impressed but not surprised at my arousal. Glass is one gorgeous, seductive siren and no vampire or human could resist his charm, no Sheltering required.
“But you cannot have me, puppy… you cannot set me on fire.”
Glass looked down, finding me extremely harder than I was earlier. It doesn’t help that he looks like my late lover. The vampire pulled away and smirked, “You are the rose, defrosted. Now I want you to do the same to the real thing.”
I breathe out, giving Salve a look who also gave me a look. My ghost lover whispers, “He’s good… but I still don’t look like him, stop thinking it.”
I tried—trust me, I also tried seducing the rose to give it warmth. But I still burned the thing, much to both of their disappointment.
“Again, pup…” Glass softly demanded. When I burned the rose again, I looked at Glass only to see him distracted. He was looking at the convent where a witness stood watching us. It was Leo, with a silver goblet in his hands.
Leo was staring at me, so I awkwardly waved.
“Oh, he’s not supposed to have that…” Glass says with his usual airy voice. “It doesn’t smell like he’s drinking blood. He must be drinking alcohol. Leo shouldn’t be drinking alcohol.”
“Why?” I walked towards Glass to hopefully get a break from training.
“Alcohol weakens his Withholding, and with Satan inside it, we don’t want that. I guess that’s what code yellow is… alcohol risks the devil taking control of Leo if he blacks out drunk.”
“Has he gone blackout drunk?”
“Yes, once or twice. It wasn’t pretty, Satan goes straight to hunting our innocent little Lucien, poor boy. That’s why Pryce is very strict on not letting Leo have alcohol.” Glass waves to Leo to acknowledge the fact he’s drinking, so the latter turned around and walked away. “He’s been picking it up the past few days.”
I sighed, We drank together in the library. Is that the reason he’s drinking again? F*ck, was that shelf his secret stash?
Glass noticed the doubt in my heart. “What he does is on him, none of it is your fault. Satan is probably giving him a hard time, so he’s drinking.”
“So I really am the reason.” I said, “I promised the Devil I’ll visit, and I haven’t done that for the past couple of days.”
Glass looked shocked, but mostly unhappy. “You… did what?”
“Deals are the only way to get Devvy to cooperate.”
“You gave Satan a nickname?” Glass looks at me with his sleepy eyes squinted even more. With an eye roll he says, “Oh my, as smart as I thought you were, you’re still one innocent puppy.”
“What does that mean?” I asked. Glass was staring at me as if he’s trying to carve out my eyes. Salve noticed and gave Jude a look of concern. Glass looks like he’s about to—
“Making a deal with Satan means your soul will be his when you die. Leo’s soul definitely belongs to him but you? Huh…” Glass scoffs, looking away bitterly as if he was… jealous? “You never should’ve done that.”
“Wh-what am I supposed to do? He was about to keep me prisoner in there…”
“We could’ve gotten you out… it’ll take a while, but a few days with Satan is better than eternity with him when you die.” Glass hurriedly walks toward me and laid a hand on my chest, pushing me against the tree until I am pinned there. “You’re not going to die anytime soon, Puppy. I don’t want the devil having you.”
Glass leans toward me to kiss where my jaw meets my neck, even throwing in a little tongue to trigger my sensitivity. He purred, “Be a good boy and kick Satan’s *ss for me when you get in there, would you? Good boys get delicious rewards…”
Sh*t, that shot straight to my—suddenly, Pryce said something to their heads. “Code purple. Everyone, to the dining room.”
“Wh-what the f*ck is a code purple?!” I yell out in hopes that Pryce will hear.
Glass suddenly giggles, distracting me with his beautiful smile. Salve raises a judgmental eyebrow at me, but when is he not judging my actions?
Glass shrugs, “Pryce is making it up as he goes. Come on, puppy. The blonde sounds worried, it must be serious.”
“Since when does he not sound worried?” My hand was encased in Glass’ softer ones, and I can’t help but stop my breath at the mere touch. Redd was right, he is so dangerous… one will really get addicted to him.
I followed Glass back into the convent, where he tugged me to the dining area. Pryce was standing at the head of the table, Leo seated down with his glass of wine, and Evie sitting on the table itself. Redd was walking down the stairs by the time Glass and I arrived, but there was one addition to the audience sitting on a seat no one offered, with a glass of wine on her hand.
I suddenly hear Glass curse: “Oh sh*t, not you…”
“I’m baaaaaaack~!” says an elegant lady wearing the biggest ridiculous beach hat and a long, flowy floral dress. She has big hair, big expressive eyes, and an even bigger rack to match her big hat. Everyone doesn’t seem to be happy having her here. “TADAHHHHHH DID’YA MISS ME, GLASS?! I missed you, my little succubus!”
Evie seemed to look pissed as he spits out, “The only thing we miss about you Margiela, is the silence when you aren’t here.”
“I’m not talking to a femme who pimps out his boyfriend to priests who like to f*ck themselves with a crucifix.” She turns toward Leo on the dining table, “I still can’t believe Leo won’t give me that d*ck. Why’d you hit the chocolate and vanilla cake but not me? I know Satan would want me!”
“Satan said he’d rather crawl back to hell than sleep with you,” Leo spoke out quietly, making the woman cackle.
Meanwhile, I whisper to Glass very confused, “Who’s she?”
“She?” Glass turns to look at me.
“OHHH?!” The loud well-endowed woman squeals upon seeing me, I jumped because her wide eyes are just as scary. “WHAT THIS IS FRESH FACE, HUH? Scrumptious lookin, he looks like he’ll raise puppies I will eat…”
“This is Jude, the new addition to our convent. Jude, this is Margiela,” Pryce says tearing her away from me before she can sink her teeth into my neck. “She is from the Vatican. As such, she should act like a distinguished Bishop from the Vatican, shouldn’t you, Lady Marge?”
“Don’t tell me how to act Pryce, you engage in homosexual intercourse when the bible explicitly says no sex before marriage!” Margiela turns back to me, “Oh, look at you! Newborn vampire, fresh off the Lord’s womb. You still have that light in your eyes, huh? Precious!”
I watch Salve retreat to the shadows because she is scaring even him. I wish I can disappear like a ghost too; the way she said that was like she is intending to snuff the light in my eyes.
But Leo stood up when she started walking towards me again, “Don’t f*cking touch him. You had no right to be here after leaving the convent after ruining it. You tortured Pryce, you almost killed Glass, and you brainwashed Evie to be so insufferable and we don’t have room for two b*tches in this convent!”
Pryce stared at Leo and telepathically told him to, “Sit the f*ck down, you are talking to a Lady of the Vatican!”
“I’m talking to a b*tch, not a lady!” Leo angrily yelled out.
“Have you been drinking Leo?“ Margiela silenced him with that question. Leo avoided our eyes, guilty of the alcohol. “Yeah, you’re not supposed to be drinking.”
She drank her wine before she tilted her head, “No room for two b*tches, you say? Well my dear handsome Leo—who still owes me 8 inches—the Vatican sent me here because there is no room for two unstable vampires with the Sheltering in this convent. It’s most powerful vampire talent of all, and a mentally-ill prostitute with a drug problem is teaching a newborn? We have to do something about it.”
Evie perked up because his lover was threatened, and especially Leo. Redd even came down the stairs and crossed his arms, ready to hold back either Evie or Leo because both of them has that look in their eyes. Glass held my arm, and I was unsure if it was to protect me, or him seeking protection.
Margiela pointed at us with fingernails the size of chalk, “The Vatican sent me to take one of them for confinement.”
“The hell you will, Margiela!” Evie marched towards her, but Redd flashed towards him to hold him down from mauling her. “I WILL DESTROY THE VATICAN AND BRING UPON THE RAPTURE ON YOUR FAKE MELON TITS, YOU’RE NOT TAKING GLASS!”
“I don’t have to take your Glass. I like this one more…” she purrs while reaching for me, much to my shock. But Glass held my hand and pulled me away from her. “Ohh? What’s this, Glass’ new boyfriend? Has Evie been replaced?”
Glass and Redd shared a look, because they know that this is my second one and I have had the Echoing for a while now. If Margiela knows, then the Vatican will take him for good.
“Jude can control his powers well,” Glass softly said, catching everyone’s attention. “It’ll always be bad the first time a vampire triggers his powers for the first time, but Jude is aware of his powers now and is improving. I’ll train him.”
Margiela stopped, then scoffed, then laughed so hard. “HAHAHAHAHA! You? You, as in the one who burns this place to the ground annually because you missed a pill? Don’t kid me, Mr Glasgow. You should be the last person teaching a newborn about the Sheltering, you could barely control yourself.”
Glass curled his fist, and the intensity of his glare vibrated the sound waves around them so much that all the drinking glasses broke on the table, especially the one Margiela is holding. Wine spilled all over the woman’s dress, and I gasped so loud I had to cover my mouth.
Redd ran towards Glass, holding him by his shoulders and pushing him away from Margiela to calm him down. Evie is now free to attack her, grabbing a decorative candle holder from the dining table to swing it towards her, but the Vampire merely avoided it with the speed of light, now clinging onto Leo’s arm.
“You b*tch!” Evie yells out, “I’ll f*cking chop off your d*ck so you can finally bleed like a woman!”
“And that, gentlemen,” Margiela proudly shows Leo the broken glass. “… is why I have to take one of them. Now I’m thinking of taking Glass specifically to spite you, Everest.”
Evie yells and tries to attack her with the candle holder yet again, but Redd held him back. “Let go of me! I’ll shove this b*tch back into her mother’s *sshole which I know isn’t as loose as yours, Margiela!”
I have a feeling they shouldn’t; she is a Bishop, they said. Hurting a high ranking official will guarantee horrible news for this convent, but Evie doesn’t seem to care as he doesn’t want Glass to go.
But I can go. I might… “Don’t take Glass,” I spoke up. Margiela, along with everyone, turned to me. “Take me. I’m more unstable than Glass… I could barely defrost a flower. If anyone here is a danger to everyone, it’s me.”
Glass held my hand, but I feel like this is the right choice. I’m a danger, an anomaly. I have two powers when Vampires only have one. Maybe I am the dangerous one.
“Well,” she proudly chuckled, “Looks like someone here still hasn’t had his brain turned to mush by the d*cks that go up his *ss. Or do you top?”
I didn’t answer that, but I was about to step towards Margiela when Pryce’s louder voice made me freeze.
“You are not going anywhere,” Pryce said, making Margiela turn to him. The leader of the vampires spoke up with a loud, authoritative voice, “You shall not harm or even touch any one of my Vampires, Margiela. The Vatican may oversee this school, but the Monsignor left me in charge and I’ll be d*mned if you touch any one of my boys.”
Margiela scoffed at him, “The Vatican doesn’t oversee this school Pryce, it oversees the entire Vampire race. We are under the Vatican!”
“NO WE ARE NOT,” Pryce activated the Echoing specifically in her brain, so loud that she winced and held her head as if the loudest sound is currently r*ping her ears. Unfortunately, he’s also doing it to us so now my entire brain is shaking from how loud he is. Pryce tilts his head and without moving his lips tells all of us: “CARNATION VALLEY IS ITS OWN ORGANIZATION, AND THE VATICAN MAY ONLY OWN THE VAMPIRES WHO GRADUATE THIS PLACE.”
“Stop—! Pryce!” Margiela screamed, holding her head.
I fell on the ground and Leo ran to me, holding my head to prevent it from exploding because that’s how I’m feeling right now. I became encased in his arms, my vision shaking because all the sound waves are vibrating.
But Pryce continued, “The point of this school is for newborn vampires to be oriented of our lifestyle and learn how to control their powers. Taking Jude away would render this school pointless. He has only had his powers for a day, he is as dangerous as any one of us. He will study here until he graduates, Margiela.“
“F*CK—F*CK, STOP! Stop it, FINE! KEEP THE NEWBORN!” Margiela screamed, and Pryce finally blinked to stop all sound waves from vibrating around us. I was still on the ground, being held by Leo.
That was the Echoing… I have this too?! I underestimated Pryce. It’s not just mind communications, he can torture our brains without saying a word! And they said Pryce hasn’t mastered this power yet!
When everyone recovered, Margiela stood up with her head held stubbornly high. “How dare you use the Echoing on a member of the Vatican, Pryce.”
“I was just trying to get it through your head,” Pryce replied with a smile as if it was a kind reminder, although there’s no light in his eyes because it’s purely a threat.
“Well… I’m not leaving without anyone monitoring your two unstable imps,” Margiela said, turning around to announce to us; “An alumni of Carnation Valley will come and personally supervise your newborn. He will simply make sure he doesn’t pose a threat to the humans, or the Vatican.”
Evie sneered as she walked past him, “If that alumni is you, I’ll crucify myself right now…”
“Oh, you flatter me, Everest. But I’m not staying in a room with men who wash their face with the same soap they wash their balls with. A lady has standards, you know.”
“Lady?” Glass cringed.
She was already standing in the head of the table beside Pryce, “For you less-gentle-men, if they destroy this convent and you seek out the Vatican, know that you’re on your own. We’re only here to make sure the world is safe from the Sheltering. Got it, Pryce?”
The blonde stayed silent as she turned to Leo, still holding me, and winked with her hand by her head. “Call me~”
In a blink of a golden light, she was gone. Silence fell between all of us, and Evie can finally stop barring his fangs. Leo helped me up as I asked him, “Who was that, really?”
It was Pryce who answered, “Margiela Pierce, a Bishop from the Vatican who is tasked to be a messenger. She has the Displacement, a teleporting ability. And yes, she used to be a student here fifty years ago and Graduated ten years ago.”
I turn to Leo with a look in my face, “Did you have a thing with her?”
“Yes. A problem. But I never slept with her, which is why she’s vindictive,” Leo replied, but I remained staring at him. Impossible; someone as beautiful as her, with giant jugs and a face to carve mountains, flirting with Leo who is still a man with desires. Fifty years in this s*x den and nothing?! Impossible!
Salve was behind me whispering, “Are you jealous?”
“I’m not jealous!” I said out loud, which made everyone including Pryce stop and turn to me. I awkwardly had to sink into the silence as I meet their eyes, “I—I mean-! Yeah, I’m not jealous! I mean exactly what I said! I don’t know what you’re talking about, Leo hahahahaha!”
Redd looked weirded out by me, Glass is pressing his fingers against his temples, while Evie is cringing at me. Leo looked confused saying, “I didn’t… ?”
“I’m going to bed, see you guys!” I say with a happy smile that could only mean awkward, marching towards the stairs before their stares could drill a hole in my brain just like I might if I get a hold of a gun.
I disappeared from their view but not before I hear Evie say, “Did he hit his head? It’s noon, and he’s going to bed?”
