Chapter 17

“How could you invite them here? How could you invite him?”

“Silver, maybe you should-”

Silver cut off his dad by pushing his hands off of him. “I need this family to stop lying to me!” Silver screams at his parents. “Why are the Heart’s here? How did they know Kate?” Silver asks.

“Allison, maybe you should take your brother upstairs.” Victoria Argent says softly to her daughter. “No. Silver deserves an answer. And I would like to know too.” Allison stands up and stands behind her brother. “Why is Michael here?”

“I invited them to Kate’s funeral. Everyone deserves the chance to say goodbye.” Victoria answers honestly. “I can’t believe you would do something like that.” Allison says causing Silver to scoff. “I can. She’s always hated my choices. She hated when I came out and she hated everyone I dated except Michael.”

“Your mother -” Argent was cut off by the doorbell ringing. “It’s open.” Victoria called out making all the Argents watch as the Heart family walked through the door, the mother holding a pan. “Is this a bad time?” Rachel Heart asks as she notices the tension around the family.

“What did you mean when you told me that ‘If you had it your way that Michael would be the one protecting the both of us?” Silver questions, already knowing the answer. “Did you move us to San Francisco because you knew who they were? Are they just like us? Killing innocents!” Silver screams at his parents.

“You didn’t tell them?” Thomas Heart questions.

“Thomas.”

“Dad.”

“Silver, just, if you would let me explain,” Argent trailed off reaching for his son but Silver took a step back. The father and son both had a moment of fear and sadness on their faces. “No.” Silver whispered, his eyes filling with tears.

“I didn’t think-”

“Don’t bother. I’m outta here.” Silver cut his dad off. He quickly ran over to the front door as he grabbed his jacket. “Silver, wait.” Michael reached out. SIlver shook his head quickly leaving the house.

“Let him go.” Allison called out to the redhead. “For once, just let him go.”

🦎

Silver quickly drove to the woods and pulled over screaming. He walked through the woods as he headed towards the lookout point in the woods. He saw Scott sitting at the edge looking over the town. “Scott?” Silver croaked out.

Scott looked behind him to see Silver in tears and he rushed over. “Hey, hey, what’s wrong?” Scott questioned wiping away the tears. “Michael is in town. I should’ve told you, okay? I should’ve told you that he’s here but his family is just like mine.” Silver rambles out.

“I know.” Scott whispers. “I saw Michael in the woods with your grandfather. I just didn’t know how to tell you and I didn’t know if you even knew.” Scott admits. “Speaking of your grandfather, I just wanted to ask you some things.”

“Okay. Okay.” Silver pulled himself together, “I don’t really know him. I mean, he just send a check in the mail every year for my birthday.” Silver said and Scott nodded slightly. “Does he know about me?” Scott asked and Silver shook his head. “My dad hasn’t said a thing. He promised me.”

“What is it? Did something happen?” Silver asked and Scott sighed and shook his head, “We just need to be a lot more careful now…”

“They’re not gonna split us apart.” Silver whispered. “Not us.” Scott smiled and leaned down to kiss Silver. “No one followed you, right?” He questioned pulling back. “I sorta made a scene at home before my parents went out to dinner for date night. ”

🦎

“You really don’t remember anything?” Allison asks as her and Silver walk with Lydia. “They called it a fugue state, which is basically a way of saying ‘We have no idea why you can’t remember running through the woods naked for two days.’ But personally, I don’t care.” Lydia tells both of them.

“Really?” Silver asks, adjusting his bag on his shoulder. “I lost nine pounds.” Lydia says as Allison and Silver both chuckle. Silver looks over to Allison, before glancing at Lydia, “Are you ready for this? I’m willing to skip.”

“It’s not like my aunt’s a serial killer.” Lydia opens the door walking ahead of the twins causing the two to stare at each other. “Come on.” Allison grabs Silver’s arm pulling him along. Allison and Silver both follow Lydia in as everyone stops and stares at the three.

“Maybe it’s the nine pounds.” Allison whispers to Lydia as Silver nods. Lydia flips her hair as she walks off, causing both of her best friends to smile.

“You should probably head to the lacrosse field.” Allison tells Silver quietly. “Why?” Silver asks, confused. “Allison?”

🦎

Silver rushes to the lacrosse field, his bag almost flying off his shoulder as he spots Michael talking to Coach Finstock. “No, no, no.” Silver mutters seeing the jersey on Michael.

“Please tell me that isn’t your evil ex-boyfriend?” Stiles asks, walking up behind Silver. “The one that cheated on you and Allison?” Stiles questioned as Silver just stood still and watched Michael walk over to the team.

“The one that is also a hunter?”

“That’s him.” Silver muttered. Stiles groaned, throwing his head back. “Is he also great at sports?” Stiles asked. “He played quarterback freshman year.” Silver said, patting Stiles back in support.

“What is Scott doing in the goal?” Silver questioned but before Stiles could answer, Coach called him over. “Let’s go. Line it up.” Coach blows his whistle as Silver hides next to the bleachers.

Michael Heart is up first as he stares down Scott McCall in the goal. When the whistle blows for him to start he easily runs tossing the ball into the net as Scott McCall tackles him to the ground.

“What the hell dude?” Michael groans standing up. “Isn’t the point of the exercise so you stay in the goal?” Michael shouts as Scott stands up. “No,no, no.” Silver whispers to himself remembering the outbursts.

“It was just a mistake.” Scott says defending himself. Michael throws his helmet down on the ground before pushing Scott. “Don’t do anything, Scott.” Silver whispers.

“Don’t do anything, Scott.” Silver’s voice echoes in Scott’s ear. “He’s not worth it. Plus, he won’t get in trouble but you will. Please.” Scott took a deep breath ignoring Michael as he went back to the goal and Michael back in line.

One player after another, Scott runs up tackling everyone in line missing the point of playing in goal. “Stilinski, what the hell is wrong with your friend?” Coach asks pulling Stiles by his helmet. “Uh, he’s failing two classes. He’s a little socially awkward and if you look close enough, his jawline’s kind of uneven.”

“That’s interesting.”

“What is your friend doing?” Michael asks Stiles, walking up behind him. “If he’s trying to impress Silver, failing is not going to work. Silver is into athletic guys not guys who-”

“Who cheated on him with his sister?” Stiles asks sarcastically. Michael takes a step back as Scott and Isaac run into each other. Both boys land on their hands and knees as Scott and Isaac show each other their glowing eyes.

Silver spots the Sheriff and a few deputies walking over to them. “This can’t be good.”

🦎

Scott and Stiles sit outside the principal’s office listening to Jackson talk to Stilinski. Stiles quickly covers his face with a magazine as the Sheriff walks out of the office. “Hi Scott.” Stilinski says glancing over to his son hiding. Scott waves awkwardly as Stilinski walks off.

“Boys,” Both boys looked up to see Gerard standing in front of them, “Come on in.”

“Scott McCall. Academically not the most accomplished, but I see you have become quite the star athlete.”  Gerard reads off as he sits in front of Scott and Stiles. “Mr. Stilinski. Oh, perfect grades but little to no extracurriculars. Maybe you should try lacrosse.” Stiles opens his mouth as he tries to tell Gerard he’s already on the team.

“Hold on. McCall. You’re the Scott that was dating my grandson.” Gerard says, staring at the boy, “We were dating but not anymore. Not dating, not seeing any of each other or doing anything with each other. At all.” Scott says panicking.

“Relax, Scott, you look like you’re about to crack a cyanide pill with your teeth.” Gerard says teasingly. “Now listen, guys. Yes, I am the principal, but I really don’t want you to think of me as the enemy.”

“Heh, is that so?” Stiles says sarcastically as he looks over to Scott. “However, with this being my first day, I do need to support my teachers. So unfortunately someone is going to have to take the fall and stay behind for detention.”

Scott looks over to Stiles slowly as Stiles looks up to see everyone staring at him.

🦎

“You’re not allowed here.” Allison says walking down the stairs of her house to see Michael Heart sitting on the couch. “I’m waiting for my parents. They’re talking to your dad and grandpa. I come in peace.” Michael tells her.

“Where’s Silver?” Michael questions following Allison into the kitchen. “He’s getting ready to go out to Lydia’s.” Allison says, causing Micahel to hum and nod. “Do you want to go out tonight? Just as friends, of course.”

“No. We’re not friends.”

“You’re not allowed here.” Silver said walking into the kitchen, slipping a beanie on his head. “I’m just asking your sister for a tour around Beacon Hills.” Michael said.

“Okay, sure.” Silver mutters walking towards his dad’s office. “Dad?” Silver questioned walking in seeing his grandfather and the Hearts standing around. “Oh, sorry. I should go anyway, Lydia is waiting for me.”

“Wait, Silver.” Gerard calls out. “I thought we were talking to Allison about this.” Argent whispers to his father. “Michael, Allison. Get in here.” Thomas Heart yells out making all three teens stand in the room.

“We’d like to talk to you.” Gerard tells them.

“I gotta go to Lydia’s.”

“I have to study.”

“Allison was taking me around town.”

Both Argent twins glare at Michael. “That’s who we want to talk to you about, Silver.” Argent says apologetically.

🦎

“Hey, sorry, Harris literally just let me out of detention– literally– and he had my phone the whole frickin’ time.”

Silver and Allison both sigh as Stiles talks on speaker phone, “Well, we need to do something right now. They were asking us all these questions about Lydia and how she was bitten by Peter, and then they sent this guy out…” Allison says.

Wait, what guy?”

“He was dressed as a Sheriff’s deputy.” Silver says, “…They’re sending him to the station for Isaac.”

He was also carrying this box with something on it. Like, um, like, a carving or something…” Allison says. “What was it?” Stiles questions.

“Hold on, hold on… It’s in one of these books…” Silver mutters as he quickly looks through the books. “I‘m taking a picture.” Silver quickly takes a photo sending it to Stiles. “Did you get it?”

Yeah. Wolfsbane.”

“What does that mean?”

It means they’re gonna kill him.” Stiles mutters before hanging up. “Okay, let’s go.” Silver quickly tells his sister. She easily grabs her bow and as the two make their way to Silver’s room for him to grab his bow, Allison stops him.

“What about Michael? He’s going to be watching us.” Allison questions. “We don’t have time to worry about that.” Silver spits out.

🦎

The hunter pulls down an empty street as another car quickly pulls up in front of him. A teenage boy gets out with his red hair making him stand out. “Hey!” He shouts making the hunter get out of the car.

“Has he stopped?” Silver questions his sister as they follow behind the car. “Tire.” Allison reminds him and both siblings quickly shoot out the back tires. “That should stop him.” Silver says calling Stiles.

Hey, did you slow him down?” Stiles questions. “You could say that…” Silver smirks staring at the car and the hunter spotting the flats. “All right. Well, uh, I’m headed to the station right now.”

“Where’s Scott?” Silver asks. “Isaac’s.” Stiles answers.

“Does he have a plan?” Silver asks. “Yeah, but not a very good one, and unfortunately, we don’t really have time to come up with anything better…”

“I gotta go.” Silver tells his sister. “Get home and call Lydia.” Silver quickly says before rushing off. Not knowing the other car was following him.

🦎

“Scott?” Silver yells rushing down the stairs of Lahey house. “Scott!” Silver rushes over seeing his boyfriend leaning on a freezer. “Hey, hey.” Silver whispers hearing Scott’s rapid breathing. “Are you sure we have to do this?”

“Yes.” Scott quietly lets out. “Where?” Silver questions and Scott opens the freezer. Scott turns around showing Silver his gold beta eyes, “Please – I don’t want to hurt you.” Scott whispers. Silver nods, taking a step back letting Scott climb in.

Silver sighs as he throws the chains around the freezer, locking it shut tight. “It’s done. It’s locked.” Silver admits. “Go.” Scott tells him. “Scott, I can’t leave you.” Silver says quietly. “Just go!” Scott yells at him.

Silver rushes up the stairs of the house looking back before shutting the door. Silver walks through the house as Silver’s flashlight starts to die. He groans placing the flashlight on the counter but he doens’t have long to panic alone as he hears footsteps behind him.

He sees a hand reaching out to him in the corner of his eye and he grabs it flipping the person around. He pushes the person towards the wall holding his arm in a lock. “It’s me! Silver, it’s me.”

“Michael?” Silver questions letting him go. “What are you doing here?” Silver asks, his eyes glancing to the basement door. Part of him was scared to be with Michael alone for the first time in a long time and the other part was scared that Scott would get himself killed.

“I overheard you and your sister talking to your friend.” Michael admits, “I’m not for killing innocents, especially when they are still young. I wanted to help-”

“You were the car that stopped the hunter!”

“-And then I saw you run here and I followed you. Why are you here?” Michael asked. “Why did you follow me?” Silver asks angrily. “I want to help you. Show you that I’m trying to be a better person and get back on your good side. I never wanted to hurt you. I can explain everything.” Michael walks up to Silver grabbing his hands, “I do love you, Silver. I still do.”

Silver opens his mouth to talk but before he can a hiss is heard behind the two boys. He turns around and screams seeing something staring at them. “Alright get behind me.” Michael says but Silver grabs a kitchen knife and throws it at the creature.

The knife grazing the side.

The creature hisses once more at Silver as Scott breaks through the door, growling. Silver and Michael run behind Scott as it runs out of the Lahey house.

“What the hell was that?” Silver asks the two. “I don’t know.”

“I’m Michael. Nice to meet you.” Michael says after a minute to Scott. “I’ll keep this a secret if you let me help.” Michael says and Scott glances over to Silver. “Look, I’m not going to do anything to hurt Silver or Allison or any of their friends. I would rather keep going to school and not have my classmates die. My dad is all for this and my mom is against it, I’m in the middle. I follow the code.”

“So, do you trust me?”
