Chapter 18
Silver walked down the steps, his music blasting in his ears. He had no awareness of what was around him since Allison left to get gas leaving him alone to ponder his ex-boyfriend holding the biggest secret he has.
“Oh what the hell, mom?” Silver yelled as his mom ripped out the earbud. “Sit.” She said to him pointing to the kitchen table. “Do I have a choice?” He muttered annoyed. He took the seat across from his mom as the two just stared at each other in silence.
He tapped his fingers against the table trying to avoid his mom’s death glare. “Great talk.” He said getting up. “Sit down.” Victoria told him making the boy scoff.
“Do you remember when you were thirteen?” Victoria asked her son, “Why you were in the hospital?”
Silver glanced down to his arms hating the fact he could still feel the burning. “You were thirteen and your birthday was -”
“A week away.” Silver interrupted his mom, “My first boyfriend wanted to give me my gift early and his friends caught us kissing in his car by the woods. They were holding the bow I was helping them learn how to use and they chased me. I woke up in the hospital to see you, Allison and dad there. But you left.”
“I had to take care of your sister. She couldn’t sleep in the hospital room for one more night. We waited three days for you to wake up.” Victoria said to him with tears in her eyes. “No you left me.” Silver hissed at her.
“Arthur-”
“Dad stayed with me all day and all night. For the seventy – two hours they held me for suicide watch because dad was scared to bring me home and watch me die.” Silver screamed. “He wanted to keep me safe and you couldn’t care.”
“I had to take care of your sister.” Victoria kept on saying, “I pulled you out of school and kept you out of school until San Francisco.” Silver shook his head as he ran his fingers through his hair. “You convinced dad to keep my sexuality a secret, and threw a fit when I gave up archery.”
“But then you met Michael.” Victoria says with a smile, “It was fine. You were happy.” Silver held back a scream as he stood up and faced his mom, “Then you helped him and Allison cheat on me. I was happy then all of a sudden I was thirteen back in that hospital room with no one but dad.”
Victoria walked over to her son, cupping his face and wiping away the tears. “I love you Silver. But you need to grow up, okay? Michael is someone who can protect you, Allison will find someone like Michael. But Scott will only lead you to failure.”
🦎
“Can we talk? Alone?” Silver turned his head to the side before staring at Scott and Allison climbing the rock wall. “No.” He told Michael. “Silver. This is important.” Michael whispered trying to get his attention.
“I would rather watch my boyfriend climb the rock wall. He has a pretty nice ass.” Silver admits with a smirk. “Did Allison talk to you?” Michael asked him, “Did she tell you what she saw the other night?”
Silver nodded as he watched Scott fall down the rock wall. “I know your mom talked to you last night.” Michael blurted out, “She told my mom. We need to talk.”
Silver sighed as he followed Michael out of the gym not noticing Scott and Allison staring at him. “I’m sure it’s nothing.” Allison whispered to Scott.
“Our families have a plan, you do realize that, right?” Michael said to Silver as the two of them stood alone in the bathroom. “Your sister is going to be the leader of the Argent family and you are going to be a soldier. But with me, your parents and mine think we can make our own clan or family or whatever.”
Silver shrugged in response. “Do you not understand?” Michael yells at him, “Your mom thinks you’re weak.”
“She’s always thought that. It’s not news to me, Michael.” Silver told him uninterested in the conversation. “She thinks that if I’m with you that I will live up to the Argent name but if I don’t fall back in love with you, I might as well date a werewolf. Oh wait? I’m doing that already. Can I leave now?”
Silver headed for the door but Michael ran ahead of him, blocking him. “I screwed up with you – with us. I loved you, Silver. I’m always going to love you and for that I want to protect you.” Michael admitted. “I want to do what I couldn’t do before. So work with me here! Please?”
“I hate you.” Silver muttered shaking Michael’s hand.
🦎
“So tell me again why Michael ‘sleep with my sibling’ is coming with us?” Lydia questions as she walks into Silver’s room with Allison following her. “I feel like any answer I give you won’t be satisfactory enough.” Silver muttered.
“Our parents want us to be nice to him. He’s the new kid just like us at one point.” Allison told the girl. “Allison can we talk?” Argent asks interrupting the three of them. As soon as Allison left the room, Silver got up and moved towards Lydia.
“I just don’t understand why you are giving him another chance when you should be fighting for you and Scott?” Lydia asks Silver. “There’s this feeling I get when I look at Scott. It’s the feeling Allison got with Michael, something I never got with him. I thought I did but,” Silver trailed off.
“I’m not being nice to him.” Lydia said, causing Silver to laugh. “That’s all I ask.” Silver told her with a smile. “But he is driving us, so….” Silver said before patting Lydia’s back and walking out of his room.
“Silver!”
Silver rushed down the stairs seeing his mom talking to Michael at their front door. “You didn’t tell me you were going out with Michael?” Victoria asked him with a surprised smile on her face. “As friends. He’s coming out with me, Allison and Lydia.”
“Michael?” Argent asked, walking up behind his son. “What are you doing here?” He took a step in front of Silver, in a protective stance. “Ready?” Allison questioned as she and Lydia joined everyone.
“Ready.” Michaels said, leading the girls out. “We won’t be home late. I’ll call.” Silver told his parents.
🦎
“Is he going to be staring at me all night?” Michael asked Allison as everyone laced up their skates. “Are all of them?” He asked looking around to see Scott, Stiles and Lydia staring at him. “Well, your name is famous around here.” Allison told him with a smirk, “Think of it as a famous curse word we use.”
“Stop staring.” Silver whispers to Scott making the boy look at him. “He knows about us, Scott. We have to play this safe. Keep him on our side so we can be together.” Silver grabs Scott’s hand, “I love you.”
Scott kisses the top of Silver’s head as he sighs, “I just don’t like him being here.” Scott mutters, earning a glare from Silver, “And I love you too.” Silver laughs as he stands up leading Scott to the ice. “Come on, I’ll give you a few pointers so you can be better than him.” Silver says teasingly.
“Silver… not that this is news to you or anything… but, you remember the Werewolf thing? Super speed, strength, and reflexes…?” Scott says smugly. “So this shouldn’t be a problem?” Silver asks amused.
” Yeah!” Scott says as he pushes himself away from the wall. “See? It’s no problem–” Scott says as he glides on the ice before falling on his back. “UGH! …Maybe.” He groans causing Silver to laugh and help him up.
“Just steady yourself.” He tells him holding his hand and pulling him along. “Okay, you got it. You got it. You got it.” He says letting go of his hand and moving in front of him. “I think I’m getting the hang of it–!” Scott says excitedly.
Silver winces as Scott hits the wall and falls to the ice once more. “You look like you hit your head that time…” Silver says leaning over him.
“What’s that, Coach?” Scott asks dazed. “…You definitely hit your head.” Lizzie Silver helping him up and off the ice.
“Remember when we used to go ice skating?” Michael asked Allison as the two walked onto the ice. “Yeah you sucked at it.” Allison said laughing but quickly coughed as she tried to hide it. “Scott seems like a nice person.” Michael said.
“He makes Silver happy, that’s all that matters to me.” Allison said looking at her brother with a smile on her face. “I hate to be the devils’ advocate,”Michael said making Allison glare at him, “But is it smart for Silver to be dating a werewolf? I’m assuming he still has PTSD from his scars. Is it right for him to be with someone who can hurt him easily?”
Silver and Scott decide to move onto an easier activity as Silver finds a photobooth. Scott pulls him in having him sit on his lap. “Okay, are you ready?” He asks pressing the button.
“First one!”
The two smile.
“Next!”
Silver kisses Scott’s cheek.
“What now?”
Scott kisses Silver’s cheek.
“Last one!”
The two kiss.
The two walk out of the booth as they collect the photos. “Oh, my eyes! The-the flash triggers them.” Scott groans looking at them. “Hey, this one is normal.” Silver says pointing at the last one.
Scott hides his face in Silver’s shoulder. “Okay, I didn’t mean it like that.” he says awkwardly. Scott looks up, grabbing the photos and he rips them in half. “Here.”
Before Silver can say a word, Lydia screaming gets her attention as she claws on the ice. Silver rushes to the door of the cie rink but Scott stops him seeing Allison and Stiles with her. The two look over to see Michael glancing between all of them.
🦎
“So they believed it. My dad actually smiled and my mom was ecstatic.” Michael told Silver as the two stood at his locker. “Oh great.” Silver muttered. “It’s better than them wanting to go after your werewolf boyfriend. Besides, my mom always liked you better than Allison.” Michael said instantly regretting his words.
Silver sighed, shutting his locker as he bit his lip, “I am the better twin.” He said, causing both boys to laugh. “Can I ask you a question?” Michael asked and Silver nodded in response. “Do you know Scott’s sexuality? I just don’t want you to get hurt again from a guy who wants a girl.”
“He never said it and I never asked.” Silver admitted. “Shit!” He shouted, slamming his hand against the locker. “I’m sure you’re fine. He’s a wolf willing to date a hunter.” Michael told him patting his back.
“So tonight our dads might be making us go out but if you want me to come up with a lie for you, I totally can.” Michael says as the two walk down the hall, “Say that we’re going out or,” Michael trails off as Silver stops walking.
He looks over seeing Scott pushed against the locker by Erica and it didn’t look right. “Okay, let’s go.” Michael tells him but Silver pushes Michael and walks away.
“Why are you angry?” Allison asked as Silver took a seat across from her at lunch. Scott took a seat behind him as he talked over his shoulder, “I know how it looked, but she came up to me.” Silver shrugged as he glared at the table, “I’m not jealous.”
“You’re not?”
“She’s with Derek, now, isn’t she? Like Isaac. You can’t get caught in the middle of this. Don’t you feel what’s happening? My grandfather coming here, Derek turning Erica and Isaac, it’s… It’s like battle lines are being drawn.” Silver admits.
“I know.”
“There’s always crossfire.” Silver says, turning his head. “What am I supposed to do? I can’t just stand by. I can’t pretend to be normal.” Scott asks, confused. “I don’t want you to be normal– I want you to be alive.” Silver begs him before getting up and marching out.
