Chapter 10

Silver taps his fingers against his leg as he watches the school come into view. He was anxious and scared of course but not to enter the place where he and his sister could’ve been killed no, it was this way because as soon as he walked through those doors he could see Scott McCall.

All weekend he sat in his room, quiet and alone like he always was. He locked his door and let his dad bring food and water to his door. He stood in front of his mirror looking at his scars and crying his eyes out.

But today was the day, today was the day that he did the thing he couldn’t do with Michael. He was going to walk through the doors of Beacon Hills High School and be himself. The car pulled up to the school and he went to open the door but he furrowed his brows as he struggled to open the door.

“Dad?” Silver calls out making Argent hum. “The door is locked.” Silver states as he and Allison both try to open the door. “Dad, if you’re going to insist on driving us to school, you at least have to let us out of the car.” Silver says annoyed.

“Kate, what’s your opinion on homeschooling?” Allison asks causing Kate to turn around and look at the twins, “Well, you know, I’m more of a learning-by-doing kind of girl…”

“What’s your opinion on overprotective dads who keep ruining their son’s lives?” Silver asks Kate. Kate looks back at Silver with a smirk before she leans forward and unlocks the car doors. “Thank you.” Both twins whisper to her.

“Wait Silver,” Argent calls out causing Silver to look back in the car, “What now?” Silver asks sighing. Argent looks between his son, the school and his sister before back at Silver, “Just – I’m a call away.”

Silver nods as he shuts the door before turning around to face the school.

He just needed one day – one day without Scott McCall.

🐺

“It’s just weird. Everybody’s talking about what happened the other night and nobody knows it was us.” Allison says to her brother and Lydia as the three leave the classroom. “Thank you for the protection of minors.” Lydia scoffs before looking over at Silver seeing the boy not paying attention.

“Hello? Silver? You with us?” She asks nudging him on his side. “Do you think I made a mistake? Breaking up with Scott?” He asks them causing the girls to stop and stare at him. “I mean was I to quick to get rid of someone that was good to me?” He asks them in a whisper.

He couldn’t deny that the thoughts did cloud his mind. He fucked up not breaking up Michael sooner but did he go to far and break up with Scott to quickly?

“We are not going down that road again.” Allison told him. “This was him all weekend going back and forth about whether or not he screwed up.” Allison told Lydia ignoring Silver’s glares.

“Scott locked us in that classroom and left us for dead.” Lydia told him, “He’s lucky we’re not pressing charges or making him pay our therapy bills.” Silver looked around ignoring the looks of the students glaring at the three for stopping in the middle of the hallway.

“But-”

“No buts.” Lydia yells at Silver, “You didn’t make a mistake. Forget him, Arthur!” Lydia smirks before waving bye to the Argent twins. “I regret telling her my name.” Silver mutters as Allison links their arms.

“Come on, let’s go to class.” She whispers pulling him down the hallway.

🐺

Silver and Allison both walk into the classroom as they look around for empty seats. Both Argent twins walk towards the front of the classroom, taking seats next to each other. Silver opens his notebook trying to get any bit of last minute studying in.

“He better not.” He hears Allison mutter to herself. Silver looks up spotting Scott walking in the classroom. Scott walks over to Silver stopping in front of his desk as Harris passes out the test booklets, “Silver.” Scott says to hm making the boys look at each other.

“Mr. McCall, please take a seat.” Harris says walking up behind Scott. Scott sighs as he looks at Silver who quickly diverts his eyes to his desk. Scott nods as he walks past Silver and Allison and up to a seat next to Stiles.

“You have forty-five minutes to complete the test. Twenty-five percent of your grade can be earned right now simply by writing your name on the cover of the blue book. However, as happens every year, one of you will inexplicably fail to put your name on the cover, and I’ll be left yet again questioning my decision to ever become a teacher. So, let’s get the disappointment over with. Begin!”

Silver and Allison glance over at each other with a smile before starting their test. Silver looks back at his test as he tries to focus on it. “Mr. McCall?” Harris calls out as Scott runs out of the room causing everyone to look up. “Mr. Stilinski!” Stiles runs out after Scott causing Silver to look at him confused and worried.

🐺

“I’m sorry about the party the other night.” Michael whispered as he took a seat next to Silver at the lunch table, “I think Luke spiked the punch a little to much and I just didn’t want you to see me throwing up.”

Silver shrugged as he looked up at Michael with a smile, “Good. I wouldn’t want to kiss you after that either.” He teased causing the redhead boy to scoff. “You can’t resist me Silver. You love me.”

“I guess I do.” Silver whispered before kissing Michael’s cheek. “Hey Allison.” Michael said as the girl took a seat across from them with the rest of the table. Silver couldn’t tear his eyes away from his boyfriend, he loved him.

Silver ran into the boys bathroom as he emptied his stomach into toilet. He groaned sitting up and leaning his head against the wall. “I hate you Scott McCall.” He muttered to himself, “I hate how you make me feel this way. I hate that you bring back memories. I hate that you made me feel this way. I hate – I hate that you aren’t here.”

“Do you want some gum?” A voice called out making Silver furrow his brows, “Jackson?” He asked as he opened the door. Jackson handed Silver a piece of gum as he opened the bathroom door and let Allison in.

“What are you two doing here?” He asked as Allison took a seat on the bathroom floor. “We missed you at lunch.” Allison said, “And Jackson offered to find you.” Silver eyed Jackson as he took a seat a little too close to his sister.

He opened the gum and popped it into his mouth as he sighed, “I guess I’m just thinking about the other night.” He admitted. “About Scott.” Allison told Jackson, “He can’t stop thinking about talking to him one more time since he dumped him.”

“I think it’s a good idea.” Jackson told the boy, “I think he got exactly what he deserves.”

🐺

“Aunt Kate?” Silver asked as he walked into his room seeing his aunt walking around, “What are you doing?” Kate shrugged as she looked around his room and stopped at his medals, “I always wondered why you gave this up? You had natural talent, Silver.” Kate said.

Silver tried to hide his annoyance that his aunt had to bring this up now. All Silver wanted to do was lay in his bed until his dad was free so that the two of them could hang out but fate was not on his side.

“I guess I just grew bored of not missing a shot.” He said with a smirk. He watched as Kate picked up his crossbow and blew dust off of it, “Jesus kid, how long has it been since you used this thing?” Kate asked teasingly.

“You know the answer to that.” Silver muttered taking it out of her hands, “What do you want Aunt Kate?”

Kate sighed as she watched Silver mess around with the crossbow in his hands. She was lucky enough that Allison was home earlier than her brother so she already had her time alone with her. She loved seeing how natural it was for her nephew to be holding the crossbow, ready to use it.

“What do you say you and I have a little shooting contest out back?” Kate asked with a smirk.

As the two walked outside, Kate set up a particular target hanging the photo on the tree. “Kate.” Silver groaned seeing the redhead boy’s photo staring at him. “You said you could never miss a shot, Silver. Prove it.”

Silver sighed as Kate walked back over to him, “I can’t. I haven’t used this thing in years, okay? And what to use it to get closure?” Silver asked her. Kate put her arms on her nephew’s shoulders pointing him at the tree.

“Don’t tell me you wouldn’t love to let some anger out at him?” She whispered to him, “To finally feel the release you need? You are so scared sometimes to hurt the ones you love, Silver, I see it every time I see you but he’s the monster that will always haunt you.”

Silver nods as he lines up his arrow, he takes a deep breath as he lines his eye sight on the redhead boy and he lets the arrow go. Kate smirks as both her and her nephew see the arrow landed right on Michaels’ face.

“See? Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about! See, if you would have had that the other night, you would have just-” Kate stopped talking as she noticed Silver’s wipe away a few tears falling from his eyes. He dropped his crossbow on the ground as he followed suit, sitting holding his knees close to his chest.

“Whoa, wait a minute! I thought you wanted to learn how to do this?” Kate asked taking a seat next to Silver. “I just don’t know what happened.” Silver admits tearfully. “With Scott?” Kate asks and Silver nods in response, “Aw, listen, my handsome, young nephew – you may not think you deserve to be loved but somewhere – someone out there will find a way to prove to you that you are their world. He was lucky to have gotten they tiny, little tase of Silver Argent’s world that he got.”

“It just felt so right with him! I really tried, I did try to listen to my heart and my gut but every time I saw something different in him he just started acting strange.” Silver admitted. “Well, he’s a guy. You know you can’t believe anything.”

“Learned that the hard way.” Silver scoffed earning a sigh from his aunt. “What he did something I’m not proud of, Silver. I hurt you but I’m helping you now. You’re my family and I will do anything to protect you now. So what’s really bothering you?” Kate asked brushing Silver’s hair back.

“It’s the whole thing with Derek Hale the other night.” Silver said believing her, “Scott saying that he doesn’t know him but I saw them together-”

“Whoa, hold on. Wait, back up – Scott know Derek? Alleged killer Derek? Are they friends?” Kate interrupted him. “No, not really. I mean at least that’s what he said.” Silver shrugs looking down at his hands.

“How about you tell me everything that Scott said about Derek?” Kate asked him. “What do you mean by everything?” Silver looks at her confused.

“I mean everything.”

🐺

“So Kate somehow put it into both of our minds that we should pick up old hobbies? The same old hobby?” Silver asked as he and his sister both browsed the sporting goods store. “Mhmm.” Allison said as she picked up a few arrows, “What do you think about these?”

Silver grabbed them as he looked down at them before shrugging handing them back to Allison. He walked over to the bows as he picked one up and held it in his hands. “You look good with it.” Allison told him with a smile.

Silver smiled as he looked down at the bow, “I feel good with it.” He admitted to himself in a whisper.

🐺

The Argent twins sat outside the store on the hood of their car both looking out into the night sky. “If I tell you something, promise not to laugh?” Silver asks his sister, “I want to tell you because this past year was hard but what I’m going through is harder. I need my sister. I need you to be on my side.”

Allison nods quickly turning to Silver, “I’m here for you, Silver. I promise you.” She whispers. “I don’t think it was Derek in the school.” Silver told her letting out a deep breath. “I think dad is lying to us.” Allison says in response.

Silver chuckled shaking his head, “God! Couldn’t we be a normal family?” Silver asked her, “I mean I know not every teenager comes home to a garage full of Glocks and AK-47s. You really think that dad is lying?”

“I think we knows more about what happened in the school than we do.” Allison said shrugging. “I know you don’t want to believe it because he’s the only person in the family who hasn’t lied to you. But-”

“I don’t even know I should believe you!” Silver yells at her. “You hurt me for months! You! Kate! Mom! Now, Scott.” Silver scoffs running his hands through his hair. “Silver, I know it’s hard to believe. I screwed up but something is going on and I need you.” Allison grabs her brother’s hand and holds it tightly.

“I can’t do this anymore Allison.” Silver cries out. Allison pulls her brother into her chest as she rubs his back letting her brother cry into her chest. “I can’t.”
