Chapter 9
“You ready for this?”
Silver nods as he looks back to his sister with a smile on his face. He straightens out his flannel and he runs his fingers through his hair. “I think so.” He admitted, “I – I have a plan.”
Allison nods as she walks up to her brother and fixes his hair for him. “It’s a good plan, Silver. You ask him what is happening, you ask him how he actually feels about you and you ask him only for the truth.” Silver nods as he pushes Allison away from him.
His sister laughs as she grabs her purse and Silver walks her towards the door. “I’m only going to Lydia’s, so I’m only one phone call away. Well, technically two if you call Lydia.” Allison tells him.
“Hey,” Allison calls out grabbing her brother’s face, “You got this. If Scott McCall doesn’t see what he’s missing then it’s his lost.” Silver rolls his eyes as he pushes Allison out the door. He shuts the door behind her before tapping his foot.
“Only the truth.”
🐺
“Lydia and Allison both say we’re coming to get you.”
Silver sighs as he paces outside his lawn later that night. “Please, don’t. Okay ,I’m sure he’s on his way. He’s only,” Silver trails off as he looks down at his phone seeing the time, “Twenty six minutes late…”
“You hear that? First, it’s “He’s only twenty-six minutes late,” a month later, it’s “He only hits me when he’s drunk.” Slippery slope, Silver. Slippery slope.” Lydia yells over the phone. “We’re picking you up.” Allison adds on.
“No.” Silver whispers as Jackson’s car pulls up at his house. “Too late.” Jackson says over the phone. The window rolls down revealing Jackson and Lydia in the front seat. “Lydia gets what Lydia wants.” He tells Silver, “Come on, get in. We can stop by his place and see if he’s there.” Jackson gets out of the car opening the door for Silver.
Silver looks back at the house before climbing into the backseat of the car next to Allison. Silver’s phone starts to beep alerting that he has a text. “…Is that him, with the best explanation ever of why he’s half-a-freaking-hour late?” Lydia asks.
“Not exactly.”
🐺
The group of four arrive at the school, Jackson gets out of his seat to let the two Argents in the back get out of the car. Silver leans against the car as he takes a breath of fresh air. “Wow I never thought I would love mom’s minivan more than I do now.” He mutters causing Allison to laugh.
“What are we doing here anyway?” Jackson asks as he, Silver, and Allison all look at the school. “All I got was this.” Silver shows his phone with the text from Scott.
“They look the doors at night, you know.” Lydia says leaning over the driver’s seat. “That one is open.” Allison calls out spotting a door wide open. Silver nods as he and Jackson both walk towards the door.
“You don’t need me to state the obvious, right?” Jackson asks and Silver shakes his head. “That it looks like they broke into school? No, pretty obvious.” Silver glances back to the door sighing. “Do you want me to come with you?” Jackson asks.
“It’s okay.” Silver shakes his head as he takes a few steps but Jackson calls out and stops him, “Hey, Silver…” Silver turns around and watches as Jackson struggles to get his words out. “You have this look like you’re about to say, ‘Be careful.'”
“I am.” Jackson hands Silver a flashlight. “I can handle myself. I’ve been doing it all my life, Jackson. Want to worry for someone worry for them or her exactly.” Silver says to him as he motions towards the girls watching them.
“I’ll be right back.” Silver calls out as he walks in the school.
🐺
“Scott?” Silver calls out walking through the halls of the school. “Scott?” He calls out again before walking towards the pools. “Great, just great Silver. You just love to make the same mistakes, don’t you?” He mutters.
He walks by the pools, shining the flashlight around when his phone starts to ring, making him jump.
Meanwhile, upstairs Scott stops Stiles as he hears the sound of a phone ringing. “Wait, do you hear that?” Scott calls out. “Hear what?” Stiles asks panicked. “That sounds like a phone ringing.”
“What?”
“I know that ring. It’s Silver’s phone.”
Back downstairs, Silver answers the phone talking to his sister. “Hey, I can’t seem to find him. I’ll be right there.” He mutters sadly before hanging up. Silver looks down once more as his phone starts to ring again.
“Stiles?” He asks confused. “It’s me. Where are you?” Scott asks urgently. “I’m in the school looking for you, why weren’t you at my place?”
“Where are you right now?”
“On the first floor.” Silver says confused and now slightly scared. “Where are you exactly?” Stiles asks as he rips the phone out of Scott’s hand. Silver, surprised by the new voice answers quickly. “The swimming pools.”
“Come to the lobby. And Silver, hurry.”
Silver nods as he starts to speed walk to the lobby, “Okay, okay. I’m coming.”
Silver meets up with Scott and Stiles in the lobby as Scott runs over to him. “Why did you come?” He asks. “Because you asked me too.” Silver tells him quickly as Scott looked at him like he was crazy, “I asked you to?”
Silver pulls up the text message coming from Scott. “Why do I get the feeling you didn’t sent this message?” Silver asked as he starts to get nervous.
“Because I didn’t.”
“Did you drive here?” Stiles asks walking over to them. Silver shakes his head as he looks at Stiles, “No. Jackson did.” He tells him. “Jackson’s here, too?” Scott asks. “And so is Lydia and Allison. What’s going on? Who sent this text?”
“Finally! Can we go now?” Lydia calls out as she, Allison and Jackson all walk through the doors. Silver looks back to Scott as a thud is heard from above them. Silver reaches over grabbing Scott’s hand as the two of them intertwine. The teens, now in a group, all look up at the noise watching the ceiling cave in.
“Run!”
The group of friends run throughout the school as they all follow each other into the cafeteria. Silver lets go of Scott as he stands away from the rest of them. He watches as Allison, Jackson, Scott and Lydia all start to block the doors.
“What the hell?” He whispers to himself. He looks around noticing the wall of windows. “Hey!” Stiles calls out as everyone looks at him, “Okay nice work. Really beautiful job everyone. Now what-”
“Hey, what should we do about the windows?” Silver interrupts Stiles. Stiles sighs and rolls his eyes before motioning to Silver. “What he said.” Stiles mutters.
“Can somebody please explain to me what is going on because I am freaking out here. I would like to know why.” Allison turns around to try to talk to Scott as he runs away to the opposite side of the room, “Scott?”
Every teen looks at him as they all try to figure out the answers. Stiles looks at Scott with pity as he keeps his eyes on Silver. “Somebody killed the janitor.” Stiles says having everyone focus on him. “What?” Lydia asks. “The janitor is dead.”
“What is he talking about? Is this a joke?” Silver starts to freak out with Jackson interrupting the question of who killed him.
“No, no, no, no. This was all supposed to be over, the mountain lion-” Lydia starts to freak out, “Don’t you get it, there never was a mountain lion.” Jackson says harshly to her. “Okay, just wait a second.” Silver hisses out. He walks behind Scott, “Who was it? What does he want?” He asks his boyfriend.
Scott quietly starts to freak out as his back is still turned to the group. “I-I don’t know. If we go out there, he’s going to kill us.” Silver furrows his brows as he looks back to his sister. “Who? Who is it?” Allison and Lydia all look over to the three teens that were stuck in the school.
“It’s Derek. Derek Hale.” Scott calls out.
“Derek killed the janitor?” Lydia asks Scott, “Are you sure?” The whole group turns towards Scott. Stiles stares at Scott in shock, “I saw him.”
“The mountain lion-” Scott shakes his head, “No Derek killed him!”
“All of them?” Silver asks his boyfriend with tears in his eyes. Scott turning away from them “Starting with his own sister.” Silver shakes his head in denial, “The bus driver?”
“And the guy in the video store. It’s been Derek the whole time. He’s in here with us. And if we don’t get out now – He’s going to kill us too.”
Silver walks over to his sister as he tries to comfort her before she freaks out even more. “Call the cops.” Jackson tells Stiles. “No” Stiles shakes his head. “What do you mean no?”
“I mean no. Want to hear it in Spanish? No.”
Stiles sighs as he looks around the group, “Look, Derek killed three people, okay? We don’t know what he’s armed with.” Stiles defends himself. “Your dad is armed with an entire Sheriff’s department. Call him.” Jackson argues.
“I’m calling.” Lydia says pulling out her phone. Stiles tries to get her off her phone but Jackson and Allison but stop him. “Yes, we’re at Beacon Hills High School. We’re trapped, and we need you to–But—” Lydia trails off as she lowers the phone from her ear, “She hung up on me…”
“The police hung up on you?” Allison and Silver both ask. “She said they got a tip warning them that there are gonna be prank calls about a break-in at the high school. She said if I called again that they’re gonna trace it and have me arrested.” Lydia says to them.
“Okay, then call again.” Allison suggests but Silver shakes his ehad and hits the side of her arm. “Do you want her to get arrested? I would rather face a murder than put a friend in jail.” He says to Allison.
“They won’t trace a cell, and they’ll send a car to your house before they send anyone here.” Stiles says interrupting the twins. “What the– what-what is this? Why does Derek wanna kill us? Why is he killing anyone?” Allison asks nervously grabbing her brother’s hand.
Silver glances between Allison and Scott as he stares at his boyfriend. Scott looks around to see everyone looking at him, “Why’s everyone looking at me?” Scott asks. “Is he the one that sent her the text?” Lydia asks Scott.
“No! I mean I don’t know.”
“Is he the one that called the police?”
“I don’t know!” Scott yells back at Silver. Silver flinches as he looks away from Scott with hurt in his eyes. “Why don’t we just back off the throttle here, okay?” Stiles says as he pulls Scott away from everyone else.
“Come on.” Allison says to Silver as she pulls her brother into a hug. “It’s just a stressful situation.” Allison whispers reassuringly to him.
“First of all, nicely done throwing Derek under the bus.” Stiles hisses at him. “That was your smart plan, let the dead guy take the blame?”
“I didn’t know what to say. I had to say something. And if he’s dead then it doesn’t matter, right? Except if he’s not. Oh god, I totally just bit his head off.” Scott says anxiously. “And he’ll totally get over it. Bigger issues at hand here, like how do we get out alive?” Stiles tells Scott trying to comfort him in a way.
“But we are alive. It could’ve killed us already. It’s like it’s cornering us or something.” Scott says. “So, what? He wants to eat us all at the same time?” Stiles asks. “No. Derek said it wants revenge.”
“Against who?” Stiles asks. “Silver’s family?” Scott questions. “Maybe that’s what the text was about. Someone had to send it.” Stiles suggests.
“Okay, assheads! New plan– Stiles calls his useless dad and tells him to send someone with a gun and decent aim. Are we good with that?” Jackson yells out causing everyone to stare at him. “He’s right. Tell him the truth if you have to. Just… just call him.” Scott sighs facing Stiles.
“I’m not watching my dad get eaten alive.” Stiles tells Scott before turning around. “All right, give me the phone.” Jackson runs behind Stiles as he grabs his shoulder and turns him around. Stiles punches Jackson right in the face as he falls to the ground.
“Jackson! Are you okay?” Allison runs over to him as Scott pulls Stiles back. Silver looks confused as he and Lydia stand back to watch Allison comfort Jackson. Stiles sighs as he picks up his phone, “Hey dad it’s me. And it’s your voicemail. Look, I need you to call me back now.”
Everyone jumps as the doors and the barricade start to shake as if someone was barging into them. The group of teens start to huddle together backing away as they watch the doors, “We’re at the school, okay? Dad, we’re at the school.”
“The kitchen, the door out of the kitchen leads to the stairwell.” Silver informs the group, “The stairwell only leads up.” Scott says, “Up is better than here. Go.” Stiles supports Silver’s statement.
The group starts to run to the stairwell in the kitchen. Running up the steps, the group makes it to the next floor as they find an empty, open classroom. Scott quickly shuts the door behind him as he puts a chair in front of it.
Hearing growls outside the classroom, all the teenagers hide out of the doors line of sight. Scott starts to lean forward as he tries to hear something, but Silver and Stiles pull him back. “Jackson, how many people can you fit in your car?” Scott says as Jackson lets out a dry laugh. “Six, if someone can sit on a lap.”
“Six? I barely fit in the back.” Allison whispers back. “It doesn’t matter. There’s no getting out without drawing attention.” Stiles says. “What about this?” Scott leads the group over to the rooftop access door. “This leads to the roof. We can go down the fire escape to the parking lot in like seconds.”
“That’s a deadbolt.” Stiles tells him. “The janitor has a key.” Scott says as Stiles shake his head, “You mean his body has a key.” Scott leans into whisper to Stiles away from the group. “I can get it. I can find him by scent, by blood.”
“I’m getting the key.” Scott says loud enough to the group before rushing over to Silver. “Are you serious?” Silver questions. “What it’s the best plan?” Scott defends himself. “You can’t go out there unarmed.”
Scott looks around the classroom as he spots a pointer stick with a little white hand on it. He grabs it, holding it out. “Well, it’s better than nothing.” Scott defends himself causing Silver to scoff. “There has to be something else.” Stiles asks. “There is.” Lydia points out as she and everyone looks towards a cabinet full of chemicals.
“What are we going to do throw acid on him?” Stiles asks not getting the point. Silver shakes his head as Lydia answers, “No. Like a firebomb. Everything in there is everything you need to make a self-igniting molotov cocktail.”
“A self-igniting-?” Stiles questions her. “Molotov Cocktail.” Lydia finishes for him. “What? I read it somewhere.” Lydia defends herself. “We don’t have a key for that either.” Stiles says as Jackson rolls his eyes and punches open the cabinet breaking the glass.
“It’s open.” He says as uses his elbow to move the glass around.
Lydia walks over to the cabinet grabbing what she needs. She starts to make the molotov cocktail asking Jackson for the ingredients. Everyone stands around nervously watching Lydia work. Lydia hands the molotov cocktail over to Scott, “No, this is insane, can’t do this. You cannot go out there.” Silver says tears filling his eyes.
“We can’t just sit here and wait for Stiles’ dad to check his messages.”
“You could die. Don’t you get that? He’s killed three people.”
“And we’re next. Somebody has to do something.”
Silver and Scott stop each other, “Scott just stop!” Silver rushes over to Scott as a tear falls out his eye, “Do you remember-,” Silver stops to try and catch his breath, “Do you remember when you told me, you knew whether or not I was lying? That I had a tell. So do you.” Silver wipes away his tears as his eyes never leave Scott’s. “You’re a horrible liar and you’ve been lying all night. If I did something I can fix it!”
“You did nothing.” Scott tells him.
“Just- just please don’t go. Please – please don’t leave us. Don’t leave me.” Silver cries out. “Lock it behind me.” Scott says to the group. Silver shakes his head as he pulls Scott back and into a kiss. He pours everything into the kiss, scared of what could happen next.
Scott pulls away before he leaves the room.
Silver turns around brushing off Allison as she tries to help him. “Silver-”
“I don’t – just give me a second.” He says to her walking away from the group. “You care about him a lot, huh?” Stiles asks walking up to Silver. Silver nods as he wipes tears from his face, “Yeah. Yeah I do.”
Stiles leans against the wall next to Silver as he glances towards the Argent twin, “I’ve known Scott for a long time. He was never comfortable with his sexuality but when he met you, it changed. He didn’t care who was watching because he had you. There was just something about you that made him, well him.” Stiles admits.
A smile starts to break out on Silver’s face as he looks up at Stiles. “He makes me feel like me, too.” Silver says. “I know we don’t know each other that well,” Silver turns to Stiles, “But if there is something going on, I just want to know.”
“Silver-”
“I’ve had people lie to me before, Stiles. Family, friends, boyfriends, everyone has lied to me at some point. So please, just tell me.” Silver begs. “I consider you a friend and people bond over trauma and that includes a night like this. So please, as a friend, just tell me what this is about.”
Stiles sighs as he shakes his head, “I can’t.” He whispers. “I don’t get this. I don’t get why he’s out there and why he left us.” Silver says as he turns back to the group. “I can’t stop my hands from shaking.” Allison says causing Jackson to reach over and grab her hands, “It’s okay.”
“Jackson, you handed me the sulfuric acid, right?” Lydia asks as she glances over to the chemicals. “It has to be sulfuric acid, or it won’t ignite if it’s not.”
“I gave you exactly what you asked for, didn’t I?”
“Yeah. Yeah, I’m sure you did.” Silver gulps wrapping his arms around his self as he notices the change of demeanor between the couple as Jackson still is holding Allison’s hand. He walks over to Lydia as he pulls her back, knowing that look on her face. It’s the same one he had anytime Allison did this with Michael. “Don’t lose your cool here.” He whispers to Lydia, “He’ll just call you crazy.”
Before Lydia could answer Jackson doubles over streaming in pain. Stiles steps closer and closer to him as he notices the claw marks on the back of his neck. Stiles moves closer, looking down at Jackson’s neck. Lydia and Allison run over to Jackson helping him up. “Ugh, no, I’m fine.” He groans before pushing away from the two girls. “Like seriously, I’m okay.”
“They were just trying to help Jackson.” Silver defends the girls stepping in front of them. “That didn’t sound okay at all.” Allison says stepping in. “What’s on the back of your neck?” Stiles asks as he steps away from the wall and pokes at the back of Jackson’s neck.
Jackson slaps his hand away, “It’s been three days and he still won’t tell me.” Lydia says before Jackson hisses “As if you actually care.” Silver scoffs at Jackson as he takes a step back from him. He moves away from the crowd of people looking outside. “All right, can we not argue for half a second here?” Stiles steps in between everyone.
“Where’s Scott? He should be back by now.” Silver mutters staring at the parking lot. A small click is heard throughout the room causing the group to look at the door. “Scott!” Silver yells as he rushes over and looks out the small window. “Where’s he going?” Lydia asks as Allison starts to pound on the door. “Scott!”
“Stop!” Lydia yells getting everyone’s attention, “Do you hear that?”
In the distance sirens are heard as Silver lets out a sigh of relief. The four teens run over to the window as they watch the police cars enter the school parking lot. The big question is, what now?
🐺
Silver hangs up the phone, returning it to one of the deputy’s after hanging up with his dad. “Silver!” He hears Scott yell. Scott runs up to him grabbing his arm turning the boy around. “Are you okay?” Scott asks him.
“My dad’s on his way.” Silver tells him quietly. Scott nods as he looks around the school and stuffs his hands in his pocket. “You need, uh… you need anything from me? Want me to go with you?” Silver shakes his head, “No, I don’t.” He answers tensely.
“…Okay…”
“And, I also don’t know what happened to you in there. I don’t know what you were thinking. Maybe you weren’t, but… Right now, I don’t-I don’t feel like I can trust you.” Silver tells him as tears fill his eyes. “Silver, I can explain—
” I don’t care.”
“Okay, don’t say anything else, please. Just don’t say—”
“Scott, I ca—”
“Silver, just stop. Please, just don’t say anything. Stiles’ dad is gonna give me a ride home. I need to make sure my mom isn’t freaking out. I’m gonna get a new phone tomorrow morning… and I’m gonna get a new phone, and I’m gonna give you a call—”
“Don’t.” Silver says interrupting him. “What?” Scott asks confused. “Don’t call. Just… just please, don’t call.” Silver says tearfully, “I thought you were different Scott.”
