Chapter 8

*AN- Hope you all liking the story*

The conference room remained frozen in disbelief.

No one spoke.

No one moved.

Because Lucas King was still standing beside Daniel Reed like the world’s most dangerous man had suddenly become gentle.

And somehow—

That was even more terrifying.

Daniel awkwardly adjusted his sleeve.

“…Thanks?”

Lucas looked down at him quietly.

His wolf was restless again now that he stood this close.

Mate smelled warm.

Soft.

Safe.

Lucas wanted to drag him upstairs immediately and keep him there forever.

Instead he stepped back with perfect composure.

Then calmly said—

“Reed Group gets the contract.”

Silence.

Absolute silence.

One investor actually choked on water.

Ethan closed his eyes briefly.

Of course.

Of course the Alpha King folded instantly.

The senior board members from Reed Group looked stunned.

One of them stammered, “M-Mr. King… the final negotiations—”

“There’s no need.”

Lucas returned to his seat smoothly.

“The deal is approved.”

Daniel blinked slowly.

That was easy.

Very suspiciously easy.

But he appreciated anything that shortened meetings.

Meanwhile several businessmen exchanged horrified looks.

They had spent months preparing proposals, presentations, financial strategies—

And Daniel Reed had won by showing up late and demanding the deal while holding iced coffee.

Life was unfair.

A phone suddenly rang loudly.

Daniel glanced down.

“Dad” flashed across the screen.

He sighed dramatically before answering.

“What?”

Richard Reed’s furious voice exploded instantly through the phone.

“DID YOU RUIN THE MEETING?!”

Daniel held the phone away from his ear.

“Ow.”

“Well?!”

Daniel looked toward Lucas.

“The deal got signed.”

Silence.

Then—

“…What?”

“It got signed.”

Another long silence followed.

Richard sounded deeply suspicious now.

“What did you do?”

Daniel frowned.

“Why does everyone assume I committed a crime?”

“Daniel.”

“I just asked him to sign it.”

“…And?”

“He did.”

The entire conference room listened shamelessly.

Richard sounded moments away from collapse.

“…Mr. King simply agreed?”

Daniel glanced toward Lucas again.

Lucas was already looking at him.

Those sharp eyes softened the moment they met Daniel’s.

It made Daniel’s chest feel weirdly warm again.

“Mhm,” Daniel answered absentmindedly.

Richard finally whispered in disbelief—

“What kind of black magic…”

The call ended shortly afterward.

Daniel shoved his phone back into his pocket lazily.

“Well. That problem’s solved.”

Lucas watched him silently.

Cute.

His mate truly didn’t understand what he had just done.

The Alpha King had just handed Reed Group a multi-billion-dollar deal because his mate looked sleepy.

Ethan sincerely hoped history would never record this.

The meeting officially ended soon after.

Executives quickly gathered their files and escaped before the strange tension in the room consumed them entirely.

Serene lingered near the doorway.

Her eyes remained fixed on Daniel coldly.

Lucas noticed immediately.

His expression darkened slightly.

Serene forced a smile.

“You seem interested in him.”

Lucas answered without hesitation.

“Yes.”

The directness shocked even the surrounding werewolves.

Daniel, however, remained busy staring at his phone.

Completely oblivious.

Serene’s nails dug into her palms.

A human.

An ordinary weak human.

Lucas ignored her entirely and turned toward Daniel instead.

“Mr. Reed.”

Daniel looked up lazily.

“Hm?”

“I’d like to discuss another proposal privately.”

Several people immediately turned pale.

Privately?!

Ethan looked at the ceiling tiredly.

The Alpha King truly had no patience anymore.

Daniel frowned suspiciously.

“…More work?”

“No.”

“Then no thanks.”

He stood immediately and grabbed his coat.

“I already attended one meeting today. That’s enough suffering.”

Lucas almost smiled again.

His mate was unbelievable.

Most people begged for private meetings with Lucas King.

Daniel rejected him without hesitation.

Lucas watched him carefully.

Then quietly said—

“There are fresh muffins in my office.”

Daniel stopped walking instantly.

The room fell silent again.

Ethan slowly turned toward his king in horror.

Did the Alpha King of all werewolves just lure his mate with baked goods?

Daniel looked conflicted.

“…What kind?”

Lucas answered smoothly.

“Chocolate chip.”

Daniel’s resolve collapsed immediately.

“…Okay.”

Ethan covered his face.

Serene looked murderous.

Lucas felt absurdly victorious.

A few minutes later, Daniel followed Lucas through the executive floor toward the private office upstairs.

Employees bowed instantly as they passed.

Daniel glanced around curiously.

“Everyone here acts scared of you.”

Lucas opened the office doors for him.

“They respect me.”

“No,” Daniel replied honestly. “That’s definitely fear.”

Lucas actually laughed softly.

The sound startled nearby employees.

Inside the office, warmth greeted them immediately.

The massive room overlooked the snowy city below.

Bookshelves lined the walls.

A fireplace crackled softly nearby.

And sitting neatly on the coffee table—

A tray of freshly baked muffins.

Daniel gasped quietly.

Lucas watched with dangerous fondness as his mate immediately walked toward the food instead of admiring the luxurious office.

Definitely cute.

Daniel picked up a muffin carefully.

“…Can I really eat these?”

Lucas loosened his tie slightly while watching him.

“They were made for you.”

Daniel blinked.

Warmth spread unexpectedly across his face.

Why did this man keep saying things that sounded dangerously affectionate?

Lucas moved closer slowly.

“Sit.”

Daniel obeyed without thinking, already distracted by chocolate chips.

Lucas sat across from him calmly.

For a moment neither spoke.

Snow drifted softly outside the windows.

The office felt strangely peaceful.

Then Daniel finally looked up.

“So what’s this second proposal?”

Lucas studied him silently for several seconds.

His mate sat curled slightly into the expensive sofa while eating muffins with complete happiness.

Mine.

The possessive thought came naturally now.

Lucas leaned back slowly.

“I want you to marry me.”

The muffin fell from Daniel’s hand.
