Chapter 15
Lucas left early that morning for an emergency meeting with the northern packs.
Which meant Danny woke up alone.
Tragic.
He lay dramatically across the giant bed staring at the ceiling for ten whole minutes mourning the loss of his personal heater.
Then finally-
Food motivated him to survive.
Wrapped in one of Lucas’s oversized black hoodies, Danny wandered downstairs half asleep searching for breakfast.
The mansion felt unusually busy today.
Servants rushed through hallways carrying papers and trays while several unfamiliar people waited near the grand entrance.
Danny blinked slowly.
“…Why are there so many people?”
One maid immediately bowed.
“Good morning, sir.”
Danny yawned.
“Mhm.”
Then he pointed lazily toward the crowd.
“Why do they all look nervous?”
The maid hesitated briefly before answering carefully.
“They’re here to seek the king’s judgment.”
Danny paused.
“…The what?”
“The king listens to disputes among the packs every month.”
Danny stared blankly.
“Packs?”
The maid immediately looked panicked.
“U-Um-family groups!”
Very suspicious.
Danny narrowed his eyes slightly.
There were definitely weird rich-people cult things happening in this mansion.
Still…
He remembered how exhausted Lucas looked lately.
Every day Lucas handled King Corporation, Reed Group, and apparently random royal court problems too.
Meanwhile Danny contributed absolutely nothing besides emotional support and cuddles.
Which Lucas seemed weirdly happy about.
Danny thought seriously for a moment.
Then gasped softly.
An idea.
The maid watched nervously as Danny suddenly turned around and marched toward the deeper halls of the mansion.
“…Sir?”
“Where’s the judgment room?”
–
The throne hall looked exactly as dramatic as Danny expected.
Huge silver pillars.
Massive chandeliers.
Dark banners embroidered with crescent moons.
And at the center of the room-
A literal throne.
Danny stared in disbelief.
“Oh my god. He actually has a throne.”
This was becoming increasingly medieval.
Several guards froze seeing him enter.
One immediately stepped forward nervously.
“Sir, this room is reserved for His Majesty-“
Danny walked directly past him.
Then climbed onto the throne.
And flopped sideways across it comfortably.
Silence.
Absolute silence.
Every guard looked spiritually disconnected from reality.
Danny adjusted himself against the luxurious black cushions.
“…This thing’s surprisingly comfortable.”
One servant whispered faintly-
“The king is going to kill us…”
Danny blinked lazily at the long line of waiting people outside the hall.
Honestly they looked tired.
And Lucas was always solving Danny’s problems.
So maybe Danny could help a little too.
He sat upright slightly.
“Okay next person.”
Nobody moved.
Danny frowned.
“…Did I say that wrong?”
The guards looked ready to faint.
Finally an older man stepped forward nervously.
He bowed deeply.
“M-My king’s consort…”
Danny pointed immediately.
“Too many words. Just call me Danny.”
The man looked horrified.
Danny sighed.
“Okay what’s your issue?”
The man hesitated before speaking.
“My neighboring territory keeps allowing their livestock onto my land.”
Danny blinked.
“…That’s it?”
“Yes?”
Danny thought seriously.
Then pointed decisively.
“Build a fence.”
Silence.
The man stared blankly.
Danny continued.
“Or like… yell at them.”
“…Oh.”
“Communication is important.”
The hall remained silent.
Then strangely-
The man looked emotional.
“…That’s actually wise.”
Danny blinked.
Was it?
The man bowed deeply.
“Thank you.”
Then left looking genuinely relieved.
Danny stared after him.
Huh.
Maybe he was naturally talented at this.
The next woman approached nervously.
“My ma__ husband spends too much money.”
Danny immediately pointed toward her.
“Hide his credit cards.”
Several guards coughed suspiciously hard trying not to laugh.
The woman gasped softly.
“…That’s brilliant.”
“Also threaten him emotionally.”
“Understood.”
She bowed gratefully and left.
Danny relaxed farther into the throne.
This was easy.
One by one the line continued.
Two brothers arguing over land inheritance.
Danny solved it by making them play rock-paper-scissors.
A couple threatening divorce.
Danny made them sit together and explain why they first fell in love.
A young wolf wanting permission to leave his hometown.
Danny simply asked-
“Does staying there make you unhappy?”
“…Yes.”
“Then leave.”
The young man nearly cried.
Somehow-
People genuinely loved his answers.
Because unlike formal pack laws and politics-
Danny listened simply.
Honestly.
Without acting superior.
And occasionally while eating cookies.
By afternoon the atmosphere inside the throne hall had changed completely.
People laughed.
Smiled.
Relaxed.
Several wolves whispered excitedly about the human consort.
Beautiful. Soft. Strange.
Yet somehow comforting.
One elderly wolf woman even pinched Danny’s cheek affectionately.
“You’re cute.”
Danny blinked.
“…Thanks?”
Meanwhile upstairs-
Chaos erupted the moment Lucas returned home early.
Ethan rushed beside him immediately.
“My king.”
Lucas removed his gloves calmly.
“What happened?”
Silence.
Ethan looked like he didn’t know whether to laugh or pray.
“Your mate is holding court.”
Lucas froze.
“…What?”
“The throne hall.”
A dangerous pause.
Then Lucas disappeared instantly.
The moment he entered the throne hall-
He stopped completely.
Danny lounged sideways across the throne wearing Lucas’s giant hoodie while eating strawberries.
And beneath him-
Hundreds of werewolves sat peacefully listening.
Danny pointed dramatically toward two arguing men.
“You both sound annoying.”
The men immediately lowered their heads.
“…Sorry.”
Danny nodded.
“Good. Next.”
Silence filled the hall.
Then slowly-
Every wolf present turned toward Lucas.
Fear exploded instantly through the room.
People dropped to their knees.
“My king!”
Danny blinked and turned around.
“Oh.”
Lucas stood at the entrance silently staring at him.
At the human sprawled across the Alpha King’s throne like he belonged there naturally.
And the terrifying thing?
He did.
His wolf purred deeply.
Mate on throne.
Perfect.
Danny raised a strawberry toward him.
“You’re back.”
Lucas walked forward slowly.
The crowd remained frozen.
Danny frowned slightly.
“Your people had problems so I helped.”
Lucas stopped before the throne.
Then quietly asked-
“You helped?”
Danny nodded proudly.
“I solved like twelve divorces.”
One nearby wolf corrected softly-
“Seventeen, sir.”
Danny blinked.
“Oh.”
Lucas stared at him for several long seconds.
Then suddenly-
He laughed.
Warm.
Rich.
Beautiful enough to make the entire throne hall freeze in shock.
Their terrifying king almost never laughed publicly.
Yet now he looked at the human on his throne with open affection impossible to hide.
Lucas stepped closer.
Then gently brushed strawberry juice from Danny’s lips with his thumb.
The intimacy made several wolves internally scream.
Lucas’s voice lowered softly.
“You stole my throne.”
Danny looked entirely unashamed.
“You were busy.”
Lucas’s eyes softened unbearably.
Cute.
“So you decided to rule in my place?”
Danny thought seriously.
“…Kinda?”
Lucas leaned down slightly closer.
“And did you enjoy being king?”
Danny immediately shook his head.
“Absolutely not. Too many people.”
Lucas smiled faintly.
Then without warning-
He lifted Danny effortlessly from the throne into his arms.
The entire hall gasped.
Danny wrapped his arms around Lucas’s neck automatically.
“I wasn’t done eating strawberries.”
Lucas carried him toward the exit anyway.
“I’ll get you more.”
And behind them-
An entire kingdom of werewolves watched their terrifying immortal king carry his lazy human mate away from the throne like something precious beyond words.
