Chapter 8

By 4:50 PM, the atmosphere in the Marketing Department was relaxed. Most employees were winding down, packing their bags, and whispering about when the pampered young master would finally break down and storm out of the office.

Manager Wang stepped out of her private office, checking her watch. She walked over to Lin Mian’s desk, fully expecting him to have abandoned the task, or at the very least, to complain that it was impossible to finish on time.

“Lin Mian,” Manager Wang called out, her voice strict. “It’s almost five. How much of the data have you managed to-“

Before she could finish, Lin Mian stood up, holding a neatly organized, freshly printed report in his hands. He smiled politely, bowing slightly.

“I’ve completed everything, Manager Wang,” Lin Mian said clearly, handing her the papers. “I cross-referenced the data from the last three quarters, corrected the formatting discrepancies in the software, and logged the final entries. I also took the liberty of highlighting a 4% error margin in the Q2 logistics report that seemed to have been overlooked.”

The entire department went dead silent. The clicking of keyboards stopped.

Manager Wang’s eyes widened in sheer disbelief. She snatched the report, flipping through the pages. Every single line was flawless. The formatting was pristine, and his analysis of the Q2 error was incredibly sharp and accurate. It was a job that would have taken an experienced analyst a full day, yet this supposedly spoiled brat had finished it in hours, entirely unassisted.

“You… you did this all yourself?” Manager Wang stammered, her guarded demeanor cracking.

“Yes. If there are any mistakes, please let me know so I can correct them immediately,” Lin Mian replied humbly.

Just then, Lin Heng walked onto the floor to check on his little brother. Expecting to see a disaster, he instead found his manager staring at Lin Mian as if he had just grown a second head.

“Manager Wang? Is everything alright?” Lin Heng asked, walking over.

“Vice President Lin…” Manager Wang breathed, looking at the report and then at Lin Mian. “Your brother… is a genius. This work is absolutely perfect.”

Lin Heng blinked in surprise, taking the report. As he read it, a look of profound shock and immense pride washed over his face. He looked at Lin Mian, who was standing meekly with his hands clasped in front of him, looking like a good, obedient student.

“Xiao Mian…” Lin Heng whispered, his voice cracking slightly with emotion. “You really did this?”

“I told you, Ge,” Lin Mian smiled softly, his eyes crinkling. “I’m going to work hard from now on.”

As the office erupted into hushed, awe-stricken murmurs, Lin Mian felt a profound sense of peace. He had taken his first real step toward changing his tragic destiny. He couldn’t wait to tell Lu Chen.
