Chapter 9

HUA YONG’S FIRST thought was to start talking. To clear the air and rid Shao You of any confusion. But one look at the alpha’s patched lips and the way he rubbed his temples and he knew he would have to save it for later.

Hua Yong nodded. “Okay,” Then he paused. “But—” he murmured. “But first, soup and medicine.”

Shao You paused, hand dropping from his face. His shoulders tensed. His expression hardened, eyes darkening as he looked over. Cold.

“Soup?” he ground out, jaw clenching. “I’m an s-class alpha! Food’s the last thing I need!”

Shao You stood. His legs nearly gave out. He caught himself on the wall, knuckles pale, breath hissing through his teeth.

Hua Yong crawled across the bed and lunged in front of him. Shao You stopped, crossing his arms over his chest as his eyes narrowed. Dangerously.

“Don’t be angry, Shao You.” He whispered, taking another step closer. His palms came up to cup Shao You’s face. “You need the energy-“

if you’re going to punch me.

Shao You pushed his arm away but let him at the second attempt.

“Hm?” Hua Yong brushed his thumb across Shao You’s lip, the alpha immediately going pliant in his touch.

Shao You frowned. There was some power play going on. Similar to the one he experienced last night even though he wasn’t completely in his right senses.

Hua Yong on the other side, he wasn’t going to use his powers to coerce Shao You into anything.

Anything except food. And the alpha needed that.

“Fine.” Shao You said, tone flat. Icy. “But keep anything from me after it and I won’t hesitate to choke you. And I won’t stop at choking.”

A faint smile crept onto Hua Yong’s face as the thought of it actually turned him on.

Don’t tempt me, Shao You, he thought.

But it died as fast as it came. What kind of a person was he? He was being threatened by Shao You because he hurt him. And he was getting hard?

He was sick. Very sick.

He slipped a hand around Shao You’s waist, much to the displeasure of the other, helping him back to the bed. When the alpha sat at the edge of the bed, Hua Yong leaned over and fixed a couple of pillows behind him. Then he reached over and carried the tray from the nightstand.

The soup was still very hot.

Twelve years.

Twelve years of plotting how to reveal himself again to the alpha. How to win him over. It would have been grand. Balloons, fireworks, rings…a memorable entrance.

Yet circumstances had managed to shatter his carefully crafted reentrance and now he only had acts of service to lean on to.

Carrying him to bed. Cooking for him. Feeding him. Hua Yong was going to do it all without an ounce of shame.

But Shao You didn’t seem to be a big fan of this service. Glared at Hua Yong when he brought a spoonful of congee to his lips. Pushed his hand away and demanded he could do it himself. And even when Hua Yong knew why, he forced it.

Again, Shao You was an s class alpha and getting him to submit was never going to be a walk in the park. He even half expected him to have punched him already.

But the alpha seemed calm. Eerily calm.

Shao You took exactly three bites before beckoning for the pills. Hua Yong brought it to him, and handed him a glass of water. Shao You washed it down with three gulps, pushed the glass back to Hua Yong before pulling himself back, grimacing at the contact.

“Now,” he leaned against the bed’s headrest, crossing his arms on his chest. “Talk.”

Hua Yong’s scanned his face. Saw how serious he was and decided there was no point in holding off the inevitable.

Last night had happened. And both of them knew just how far. Intoxicated or not.

He set the tray back down on the nightstand and turned to Shao You. Resisting the urge to hold his hand, he settled on resting them on his thighs instead.

His mouth opened. Closed. Double guessing.

Shao You did not look away. Unwavering in his attempt to intimidate the man whose class he did not quite know of yet.

Until something caught his eye.

Just when Hua Yong opened his mouth to answer, Shao You sucked in a deep breath, yanking the covers off of him. Hua Yong followed his gaze to the clock hanging on the wall behind him.

“Damnit!” Shao You exclaimed.

He was already getting down from the bed, staggering across the room barefoot.

“Shao You, wait-” Hua Yong dashed after him, nearly bumping into him when Shao You stopped abruptly in the middle of the room and spun around.

“The shareholders meeting—I need to be there in thirty minutes. We’re meeting the new acquirer today. I—” But then he stopped mid sentence and looked at Hua Yong like he didn’t half expect him to understand what he meant.

Hua Yong met his gaze. Held it. “I know.” he said, causing the other’s brows to furrow in curiosity. “But that’s not important. You need rest first—”

“I don’t have that luxury.” Shao You cut in, waving a non committal hand at him. “I need to go. Now.”

Hua Yong frowned. His alpha did not look too well.

Infact, he suspected he was getting a fever with how pale he looked, cheeks flushed pink.

The events of the last month had taken a toll on him both physically and mentally. The enigma had witnessed each and every turn of event. And Hua Yong hated that even now when Shao You had the chance to rest, he was denying himself that.

He wasn’t going to be put off. Not when his alpha’s health was in jeopardy.

“Shao You—”

Shao You ignored him, looking around the huge bedroom. ” Where are my clothes? I need to go!”

“Shao You—”

“Sheng Shao You.” Shao You supplied through his teeth. “Now tell me where my clothes are before I lose it.”

Ripped. “Forget about them.”

Shao You peered past him to the other side.

“Nevermind.” He called underneath his breath, walking over to the couch in the corner where some pieces of clothes were carefully folded over the armrest. “I’m going to borrow this.”

He snatched them, the pyjama Hua Yong put on him hanging down his shoulders.

He stripped right there and then, pulling the white shirt over his head the next. Then the black slacks.

They fit perfectly. Maybe a little too perfectly. Like it had been tailored for him and he glanced back at Hua Yong.

The enigma was behind him. Watching his every move. Ready to jump in at the first sign of discomfort.

Shao You discarded the pyjamas and run out the bedroom. Hua Yong followed him, making no major objections.

“And oh—”

Shao You paused in the doorway, turning to Hua Yong with a tight expression. “This is for touching me, asshole.”

The blow landed square in Hua Yong’s face, pushing his head the other way. His tongue poked the inside of his cheek and he smiled.

Smirked.

Then watched as Shao You slipped into his shoes and stormed out.

The door slammed shut behind him.

Hua Yong went back to the bedroom and grabbed his phone from the nightstand. He dialed a number.

It went through at the first ring.

Sir—”

His tone switched. Quite different from the one he used with Shao You.

Colder. Aloof. Indifferent.

“Make sure Mr. Sheng gets back to the company safe.” he said.

“Yes, Sir.”

The line went dead. He tossed the phone aside and strutted into his large walk in closet.

He wiped a thumb across his bottom lip, the metallic tang of blood in his mouth. Red coated his thumb as he brought it to his face. He smirked.

Wait for me, Shao You.
