Chapter 13

Silver tried to hold together his emotions as he heard his sister try to keep her sobs quiet in the seat next to him. He focused on the road ahead of him as he drove down the road.

“What are you doing to him? Is that gonna kill him?” Allison asked as Derek was shocked causing her to jump back. “Oh, come on, kiddo. Don’t get all ethical on me now.” Kate told them exasperatedly.

“What is he?” Silver asked intrigued. “Shapeshifter. Lycan. Werewolf. To me? He’s just another dumb animal.”  Kate told him. “Come here.” She motioned the twins over to Derek. “See these right here?” Kate opened Derek’s mouth, “These are canines, also known as fangs. Made for the tearing and rending of flesh. Not something you’d find on those cute, leaf-eating herbivores, is it?”

“Is this a joke to you?” Allison asked appalled as Silver couldn’t tear his eyes away from Derek. “Sweetheart, there are Werewolves running around in the world. Everything’s a joke to me. How else do you think I stay sane?” Kate told Allison, “Silver, what do you think?” She asked looking at her nephew.

“So it was him at the high school? And all the other animal attacks?” Silver asked standing next to Allison, taking her side. “There’s actually three of them– another younger one like him, called a Beta, and then there’s the Alpha. Alpha’s the pack leader– bigger, stronger, nastier. Those are the real ugly motherf—”

“Oh, god, not now.” Silver muttered spotting the flashing red and blue lights behind him. “Allison, I need you to sit up and stop crying, okay? Just take a deep breath.”

“When were they gonna tell us?” Silver asked as he noticed tears already in his sister’s eyes. “They still haven’t decided if they’re gonna tell you.” Kate told them making Silver angry. Angry at his family. Angry at himself. Angry at his dad for lying, the one person he could trust.

“Why?” Silver spit out. “Let’s just say, if you react badly when you find out…? Not good.” Kate said not bothered by the twins emotions. “What do you mean not good?” Allison questioned. “They don’t think that you can handle it. They look at you two and they see these frightened little kid who’s gonna run crying in the corner when they finds out the truth. Me? What I see? Natural talent. Allison, Silver, you said you wanted to feel more powerful, right? Now’s your chance.”

Kate walked over to the twins leading them out of the cellar leaving Derek behind. “What are we supposed to do now?” Allison asked. “Go to school, do your homework, go to the formal on Friday night. Be  normal teenagers who doesn’t know anything. Trust me to get everything ready for the next part.”

“What’s the next part?” Silver questioned. “You’re gonna help me catch the second Beta.” Kate said smirking.

Silver pulled the car over as he rolled down the window and kept his hands on the steering wheel. “Silver? Allison? You alright?” Stilinski asked as he walked up to the car. Silver wiped a tear that felt down his face and Allison did the same.

“Yeah. Sorry I was going so fast, I – I didn’t realize  I-” Silver stuttered out as more tears fell down his face and his knuckles turned white from his grip on the steering wheel. “Oh, no. Uh, okay… all right… Uh, listen, you weren’t going that fast. Just, uh… seventy-five in a twenty-five… in a construction zone…” Stilinski told him kindly.

Silver groaned as he shook his head, “I’m not crying to get out of the ticket. I’m not like this. I don’t want you to think I’m like this.” He told Stilinski. “No, it’s okay. Perfectly okay. It’s uh…” Stilinski hesitated unsure on what to do.

“No, please. Write me a ticket. I need you to write me a ticket, okay?” Silver told him as he stared ahead at the road. “Okay… I don’t see how that’s gonna really make you feel a lot better…”

“It’s so humiliating. I swear, I’m not like this. I wasn’t raised like this. I don’t do this, ever.” He cried out. “I understand.” Stilinski told him kindly. “This isn’t me. This is- this is not me! This is not me.” Silver hit his hand on the steering wheel taking a deep breath. “I’m okay.” He muttered.

“Yeah?” Stilinski asked worried for the teen. “Yeah .I’m okay.” Silver told him.

“Do I still have to write you a ticket?”

🐺

“Hey, what time should I pick the two of you up for the dance tomorrow?” Jackson walked up to the twins at Allison’s locker. “Are you okay?” Allison asked him. “Yeah, I-I’m great! I’m just excited to go to the formal. With you. As friends. Just friends but I thought we- we could bring Silver.” Jackson stuttered out.

Silver sighed as he leaned his head against the locker, “No, it’s okay. I’m going solo.” Jackson shook his head as he glanced down the hallway. “I’ll find a date for you!” He shouted out, “A nice guy. He’s on the lacrosse team. He’ll meet you at your house. It’ll be fun.”

Silver and Allison watched as Jackson walked away from them nervously. “He’s strange.” Silver said and Allison agreed. “Wonder who the mystery guy is?” Allison asked. “Who knows maybe it’s your soulmate? Your last boyfriend.” Silver joked around.

🐺

“Nothing’s wrong… I just, I have a lot on my mind.” Silver told Lydia as the Argent twins and Lydia entered the shop in the mall. “You could smile, at least. Ever heard of the saying, “Never frown – someone could be falling in love with your smile?'” Lydia told him, “Smile, Silver. I’m buying you a nice suit.”

“Have to admit, as far as apologies go, that’s more than I expected.” Silver shrugged looking back at her. “Excellent!” Lydia cheered. “But not as much as I’m going to ask.” Silver told her with a smirk.

“What? What’s that supposed to mean?” Lydia questioned as the three got off the escalator. “It means you’re going to cancel on whatever dumb, roided-up jock you said yes to and you’re going with somebody else.” Silver told her teasingly.

“Who?” Lydia questioned. Silver threw his arm around Lydia’s shoulders as he pointed to the perfume counter, “Him.” Everyone watched as Stiles accidentally sprayed the perfume in his mouth making him cough. He looked over to see the twins and Lydia watching him and waved.

“Don’t frown, Lydia! Someone could be falling in love with your smile.” Silver smirked as he and Allison patted Lydia’s back before walking away.

“Silver? Should we match?” Allison questioned as she held up a red, black and white dress. “Red would suit you.” She said as she and Silver looked in the mirror and Allison held the dress up to herself.

Silver pushed back the mirror to see a man standing behind them, watching them. “Why don’t you pick out my tie color? Preferably a bow tie.” Silver tells Allison sending her away. “Go Allison.” He says and Allison rushes off.

Silver puts the dress back on the rack as the man walks up to him. “That’s not your color or your sisters.” He said walking up to Silver, “Sorry if that was intrusive. But considering your skin tone, I’d tell her to go lighter.”

“Because we’re pale?” Silver asked him crossing his arms. “Fair. I mean, you can’t call skin like yours ‘pale’. Not skin that perfect.” The man glides his finger against Silver’s cheek making Silver stop moving. He takes a step back clearing his throat, “I would say thank you but I don’t even know your name.”

“Peter.” Peter says, “Trust me, I have a unique perspective on the subject. Do you mind?” Peter grabs Silver’s hand and drags the boy to the dress rack next to him. Peter holds up a silver dress against Silver’s hand, “See?”

“Yeah. It’s much better.” Silver says as Peter puts the dress back. “Your friend seemed to run off quickly. I hope you’re not alone. Shopping for dresses and suits with friends? High school dance?” Peter asks.

“She’s my sister and it’s our formal.” Silver told him.

“Attention shoppers… To the owner of a blue Mazda, license plate-”

“Did she just say a blue Mazda?” Silver asks himself as the announcement plays.

“-5768. Your car is being towed.”

“Oh! That’s my car!” Silver yells quickly running off.

🐺

“So, who is the mystery guy?” Argent asked as he walked in seeing his son struggle with the silver tie. He pushed Silver’s hand away from it as he took over to tie it for him. “I don’t know. Some lacrosse player that Jackson knows.” Silver muttered.

Argent nodded as he tightened the tie and took a step back from his son. Silver took a seat on the edge of his bed as he cuffed the end of his sleeves. “What’s wrong?” Argent asked taking a seat next to his son.

“I hate being scared, dad. I don’t want to be this way.” Silver sighed, “I want to be normal and be powerful.”

“You are, Silver. The pressure that you put on yourself only makes you stronger.” Argent places a hand on Silver’s shoulder, “You have faced horrible things in your life and I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you from them. But being here, and being you, being my son, I couldn’t be more thankful.”

“I love you dad.”

“I love you too.”

🐺

“Thanks for coming with me. I know Jackson probably did something -” Silver said as he and his date, Isaac Lahey walked up to the doors of the school. “No, no. I didn’t mind.” Isaac interrupted him.

The two walked into the dance and Silver leads the boy over to where his sister and Jackson stand by the punch bowl. “Surprised you’re not dancing.” Silver says to Allison. “Well, I want to dance and Jackson won’t dance with me.” Allison said causing Jackson to hum knowing he wasn’t going to be dancing tonight. “Could I just borrow your date Silver?”

Isaac looked between the two Argent twins, “You wouldn’t mind, would you, Silver?” Allison asked. “It’s up to Isaac.” Silver said and Allison smiled grabbing his hand, “Well, I’m not taking a no for an answer.”

Silver stood back as he watched the two of them walk away. He looked around trying to find an exit seeing if he could just escape the embarrassment and leave before anyone would miss him.

“McCall! I see you!” Coach yelled grabbing Silver’s attention. He took a step back and watched as Coach caught up to Scott who was dancing with Danny. “McCall! You’re not supposed to- What the hell are you  do- What the hell are you doing?” Coach asked.

“Yes, Coach?” Scott asked innocently as his arms were wrapped around Danny’s neck. “Okay, ho-ho-ho, ha-ha. Hold on, you– I was just saying he’s not supposed to– I mean, I wasn’t saying that he shouldn’t– You guys don’t think– You don’t– I-I was—” Coach stuttered, “Just dance, everybody! Just dance! Dance! It’s a party!” Coach yelled walking away from the two.

Silver stood back and covered his mouth trying not to laugh as Scott walked over to him. “Silver…”

“Yes, I would love to dance with you.” Silver said relieved pulling the boy out to the dance floor. Silver wrapped his arms around Scott’s neck as his arms went around his waist. “I don’t have a reason to be jealous, right? You and Danny?” Silver asked teasingly.

Scott didn’t answer as he stared at Silver and a smile grew on his face. “What?” Silver asked. “It’s just hard not to look at you.” Scott told him sheepishly. Silver blushed as he cleared his throat with a smile on his face.

“I remember this one time… Uh, I was holding you and you fell in asleep in my arms, and I was watching you and I thought “I could stay like this for hours.” It was the first time that I saw your scars without you knowing and I couldn’t help but wonder why someone would hurt you. But then you startled drooling and my arm fell asleep-”

“Okay, stop talking.” Silver said laughing, “Why didn’t you tell me about that?” Scott shrugged as he pulled Silver closer, “They don’t change the way I see you. Silver, I need to tell you something… Remember when we were talking in my room the other night?”

“Oh, don’t apologize. Stiles told me about the car accident. Well he more told Allison who told me but then he told me again.” Silver said. “I- It’s not that. It’s about Derek, and it’s about everything that you were trying to tell me…” Scott said anxiously.

“That is something to forget about. I- I have no idea what I was talking about.” Silver stuttered. “I do, and I believe you.” Scott said to him softly. “You don’t have to. I know things now and everything changed. I need you to trust me.” Silver said leaning his forehead against Scott’s.

“You weren’t wrong.” Scott tried to tell him but Silver didn’t listen. “Yes, I was. The stuff I was saying, it was crazy!” Silver hissed at him, “Scott-”

Silver couldn’t continue what he was saying because Scott captured his lips in a kiss. Silver melted into the kiss as the feeling of warmth and love spread through him as he held Scott in his arms and Scott held him.

“Why did you do that?” Silver asked as they pulled away from each other. “Because I love you.” Scott told him quietly. Silver pulled back as he grabbed Scott’s hand and led the boy out of the school.

“Where are we going?” Scott asked him as the two walked outside. “Somewhere we can be alone…” Silver said seductively. “Alone where? Where are you going?” Scott questioned as he watched Silver rush off without him.

“Over here!” Silver shouted from between two school buses. Scott ran towards him as he stared at Silver standing in front of a school bus door. “Are you okay?” Silver questioned noticing the look on Scott’s face. “Yeah… Just a little weird déjà vu.” Scott muttered.

Silver smirked as he leaned forward to kiss Scott before pulling away and undoing his own tie. “Sure this is a good idea?” Scott questioned as Silver’s hands went to his tie. “In a minute, you are going to think this is a great idea.” Silver said flirtatiously.

“I really hate it when you say things like that…” Scott groaned. Silver laughed before opening the door to the bus and walked in, “Come on!” He shouted as he ran towards the middle of the bus. “We should get back to the dance…” Scott sighed looking around, “Screw it.”

Before Scott could get on the bus following Silver he spotted two pair of headlights shinning on him. “Scott!” Silver shouted as he pounded his hands on the window. Scott saw Argent staring him down as both cars drove towards him.

Silver gasped in fear as tears filled his eyes when Scott jumped up and landed on the hoods of the car. He covered his mouth in fear and shock as he saw Scott shifted just as he saw Derek. He saw Scott as a werewolf.
