Chapter 3
Silver Argent scratches the back of his neck as he stands in his room early morning. His eyes glance down his body, filled with scars that represented his past making him feel sick. His mind starts to wonder about what lies he could tell here about his body in Beacon Hills. He knows that at the end of the day no matter what his parents say, they won’t be here long.
Silver quickly throws on a white t-shirt and red flannel as he finishes getting ready for school. His eyes catch his crossbow which was hanging proudly on his wall. He missed that part of him. The part that made him feel somewhat normal, something he wanted to feel again.
But he put down the bow and he decided to walk away a year earlier.
“You miss it?”
Silver swung around with his crossbow in his hand aiming it at his twin sister, “Allison! What the hell?” He yelled at her but all she could do was laugh. “You can’t hurt me if you don’t have an arrow.” She pointed out walking over to him.
He tosses his bow down on his bed as Allison hands him his backpack, “Come on. First day.” She tells him causing him to smile at her. “Can’t wait to be a new kid, again.” He mutters to her as the twins walk down the stairs.
🐺
Silver Argent could be described by a lot of words. He was kind, caring, older by five minutes and most of all trustworthy. That was what his family liked to say about him, he would call himself, mostly forgetful.
“Mom wants to talk to you.” Allison said handing the phone to her brother. He closed his eyes as he grabbed the phone, “Hi mom.” He muttered.
“Why are you ignoring my calls?”
“Mom, three calls on my first day is a little overdoing it.” Silver told her as he went back searching through his bag, “Silver, I just worry about you. Do you have everything?”
“Everything except a pen.” He sighed glaring at his laughing sister, “Oh my god I didn’t actually forget a pen.”
“Silver.” Allison called out as she spotted someone walking towards them. “Okay, okay. I gotta go. Love ya.” Silver said hanging up handing Allison’s phone back to her.
“Sorry to keep you waiting. So you two were saying San Francisco isn’t where you grew up?” The principal asked them leading them into Beacon Hills High School. “No but we lived there for more than a year, which is unusual in our family.” Silver told him. “Well, hopefully Beacon Hills will be your last stop for a while.”
Silver just nodded as he let Allison walk into the classroom first. Silver’s heart was beating out of his chest as he wiped his hands on his pants. He glanced over to his sister to see her not nervous at all and he as jealous of her.
“Class, these are our new students, Allison and Silver Argent. Please do your best to make them feel welcome.”
Silver felt a little push to see his sister walking the opposite way of him and he just stared at her as she took a seat so far away from the other empty seat.
“Mr. Argent?” The teacher called out, “Maybe you could find a seat?” Silver nodded as he walked over to his seat and he briefly nodded at the boy next to him.
He looked up to see the boy in front of him with a pen. He furrowed his brows before a smile, “Thanks.” He said softly grabbing it.
“We’ll begin with Kafka’s Metamorphosis, on page 133.” As the teacher began to talk and the boy turned around all Archer could think was how did he know he needed a pen.
🐺
“So how was your first day?” Allison asked as both her and her brother walked up to their neighboring lockers. Silver groaned as he opened his earning a laugh from Allison.
He shut his locker after putting away his books only to look behind Allison to see the boy from his first period staring at him. He lifted his hand with a wave and a tiny smile.
“That jacket is absolutely killer. Where’d you get?” Silver moved his sight over to his sister who was now stopped by a strawberry blonde girl. “Our mom was a buyer for a boutique back in San Francisco.” Allison said pointing between her and her brother.
“And you are my new best friend.” The girl than turned Archer, “And you are?” she asked. “Her twin brother, Silver.” He muttered. “Lydia.” The girl hummed.
It wasn’t long till another boy walked up to them and grabbed Lydia by the waist, “Hey Jackson.” Silver immediately felt uncomfortable by how close the two were, almost like they had a point to prove.
“So, this weekend, there’s a party.”
“A party?” Silver asks, “Friday night. You should come.”
Allison looks between the group of people that are now surrounding her. Coming up with an excuse for the family night she thanks for the invitation. “You sure? Everyone’s going after the scrimmage.”
“You mean like football?” Silver asks as the whole group chuckles. “Football is a joke in Beacon. The sport here is lacrosse, we’ve won the state championship for the last three years.”
“Because of a certain team captain,” Lydia says as she kisses Jackson’s cheek. “We have practice in a few minutes. That is if you two don’t have anywhere else-”
“Well, we were going to-”
“Perfect you’re coming.” Lydia grabs both of their wrists pulling them along.
🐺
Silver Argent was never one to play a sport or to even like watching them. His parents always said that they were lucky he took up archery just like his sister but at one point he just wanted to stop and something made him.
He reluctantly followed his sister and Lydia out to the fields but when he glanced up he saw the same boy for earlier and a small was quickly formed. “You okay Silver?” Allison asked noticing Silver staring at the field.
He nodded as he scratched the back of his neck his gaze still on the boy, “Hey Lydia, who is that?” He asked leaning over Allison. “Him? I’m not sure who he is. Why?” Lydia said. “He’s in my English class.” Silver responded.
Silver easily leaned forward keeping his eyes on #11 watching him cover his ears before getting hit right in the front of his helmet. Silver covers his mouth in shock as the team starts to laugh. “That has to hurt.” Silver mutters causing Allison to bump shoulders with him with a knowing smirk on her face.
Once Coach decides to start again, Scott starts to actually catch the balls being thrown at him. Silver hums as he watches Scott start to actually play lacrosse. “He seems like he’s pretty good.” Allison states as the three of them stare at him in awe, “Don’t you think Silver?”
Silver doesn’t answer instead he stands up with Lydia as both of them cheer for Scott.
🐺
“Allison?” Silver calls as he runs down the stairs in his house, “Allison!” He yells one more time finding his sister in the kitchen, “What?” She asks. “Car keys?” He asks holding out his hand. Allison sighs as she grabs the keys from her purse and throws them at Silver.
“Hey I’m the one buying the pizza.” Silver mutters. “Silver?” Silver sighs as he grabs onto the doorknob but the sound of his dad’s voice makes him turn around. Silver shrugs waiting for a response but all Chris Argent can do is stare at his son.
“What?” Silver asks annoyed. “Just,” Chris trails off as his eyes linger on Silver’s arms and the red marks peeking through, “Be careful.” Silver rolls his eyes as he leaves the house.
Silver hated driving in the rain and in the dark but he didn’t want to be left alone with his dad, so he offered to get the food. He hated the thought of what might be out in the woods and he hated being alone. The only thing that got him through this drive was his music blasting in the speakers.
It was a quick second he looked down to change the song, one quick second when he felt the car hit a bump. “No, no, no.” He muttered quickly stopping the car and running outside to see a dog in the middle of a road.
“Are you kidding me?” He yelled out. He quickly opened his trunk and ran over to the dog who started growling at him but it didn’t scare him. He scooped it up and put it in the trunk immediately trying to find the location for the vet and then driving off.
As Silver parked the car the rain only poured harder on the boy as he got soaked knocking on the vet’s door with the closed sign. He keeps knocking on the door, as he was crying and soaking wet. He hated this feeling he had of sadness and anger all mixed together.
“Hi..” Scott said as he opened the door to Silver Argent. “I didn’t see it. I took my eyes off the road for, like, two seconds to change the song on my iPod, and then this dog, it just came out of nowhere!” Silver rambles anxiously.
“It’s all right. It’s all right. It’s all right. It’s all right. Do you remember where it happened, so I can send Animal Control to find it?” Scott asks him trying to calm him down. “No! I mean yes, I know where I hit it but the dog is—” Silver sobs out.
“Where is it?”
“It’s in my car.”
Scott follows Silver out into the pouring rain, where he has the dog, a white and gray collie, in the trunk of his hatchback car. The dog instantly starts growling at them, scaring Silver and causing her to jump backward. Scott, concerned, grabs his by the shoulders to steady him.
“You okay?” Scott asks him with a smile. Silver nods as he catches his breath from all the crying. “She’s just frightened.” Scott tells him. “That makes two of us.” Silver mutters as he keeps his eyes on the dog.
“Let me see if I have any better luck.” Scott tells him as he looks at the dog, maintaining eye contact and a stern look, which seems to instinctively trigger his newly-gained animal instincts. Suddenly, his irises glow bright gold, and the dog ultimately submits to him and stops growling.
Inside the clinic, Scott and Silver have brought the dog to the exam room, where Scott is checking the dog out for injuries. “I think her leg is broken. I’ve seen the doctor do plenty of splints. I can do it myself and then give her a painkiller for now.”
Silver nods gratefully, and Scott notices that he’s shivering from the cold and the rain. “I have another shirt in my bag…” Scott trails off pointing to the corner of the room. “Oh, I don’t want to trouble you.” Silver says as he crosses his arms afraid to look up, he pulls his sleeves down further.
Scott grabs the shirt and hands it to him. “Here.” Silver takes the shirt and goes into the other room to change. “Get yourself together Argent.” Silver whispers to himself, “He’s just a guy.”
Scott catches a glimpse of Silver’s bare back after he takes his shirt off, and he furrows his brows noticing the marks. The dog makes a harrumphing noise and sits up to give him a look, as though she’s judging him. Scott makes a face at the dog in response.
“Here. What? I didn’t see anything.”
Silver returns wearing his ivory long-sleeved t-shirt, looking slightly embarrassed. “Thanks for doing this. I feel really stupid.” He admits. “How come?” Scott asks with a frown. Silver looks down at the floor bashfully, “I don’t know… ‘Cause I freaked out like a total girl. I’m supposed to be tougher than this, at least that’s what my family keeps telling me. Live up to your name Silver. And I’m sorry I just ranted that out to you.”
Scott smiles as he tries to make him feel better, “Hey, I’d be freaked out too. In fact, I’d probably cry. And not like a man, either. Like the biggest girly-girl ever. It’d be pathetic.” Silver bites his lip as he glances towards Scott, “Yeah, right…”
Scott looks down at the dog, whose arm now has a yellow splint that Scott seems to have doodled on in the interim, and starts petting her comfortingly. “So… It looks like she’s gonna live. And I’m pretty sure she’ll even let you pet her now, if you want.”
Silver looks pretty nervous about the prospect. “I don’t think so.” Scott smiles mischievously at Silver as if daring him to do it, knowing he’ll feel better if he does. “Oh, come on. You don’t want her to sue. I hear this breed is very litigious.” Scott teases.
Silver slowly reaches out and pets the dog along her side, and when she doesn’t growl or try to move, Silver smiles and continues to pet her. “You see? She likes you.” Scott says happily. Scott and Silver stare at each other for a long moment before Silver looks confused, “What?”
Scott, realizing his staring was a little intense, looks away bashfully, “Uh. Sorry. You have an eyelash on your cheek.” Silver nods as he looks back at the do, “Oh… from the crying.”
Silver wipes at his face to try to get it off but misses it, so Scott reaches out and gently brushes the eyelash off of his left cheekbone. Silver smiles, seemingly developing feelings for Scott, he just hopes he’s not being fooled.
“Thanks.” He whispers. “Yeah.”
Silver led Scott out to the parking lot where the rain finally stopped. Scott looks nervous as Silver opens the driver’s side door and tosses his wet shirt on the passenger seat, stammering as he tries to summon the nerve to ask him out.
“So, um… I was wondering… I mean… Is it really family night on Friday, or do you think maybe you’d like to go to that party with me?” Scott stutters afraid that he might be reading the situation wrong.
“I mean- we can go as friends – if that-”
Silver smiles when he realizes that he got called out on his fib from earlier. “Family night was a total lie.” He interrupts Scott. “So, is that a yes? You’ll go?” Scott asks him, eagerly. Silver smiles and nodes in agreement, “Definitely yes but I don’t want to go as friends.”
🐺
“Should you really be going to a party with a random guy?” Silver asks as he and Alison both climb the bleachers ready to watch lacrosse practice. Allison laughs as she looks back at her brother but his face remains stoic, “Are you really serious? Silver you’re going with a guy you just met!”
“Yeah but,” Silver trails off, “I at least know Scott you let Lydia set you up with a random guy.” Allison laughs at him as she takes a seat. Silver groans but he can’t argue as he looks out to field, waving at Scott. “Is he picking you up?” Silver asks.
“I’m going over early to Lydia’s.” Allison tells him, “Is Scott picking you up?” Silver blushes as he bites the inside of his cheek, “I don’t like this.” He mutters causing Allison to laugh.
Practice begins with the players doing a drill in which they pass the ball back and forth between each other. Scott bounces on the balls of his feet while he waits for the ball to be thrown his way. Once again, when the ball heads his way, he’s shocked when he actually catches it with minimal effort. He starts running down the field, but when he spins around to avoid getting the ball stolen by another player, Jackson appears out of nowhere and tackles him hard. Jackson lifts up his helmet so he can smirk smugly at Scott before jogging away, which acts as the motivation Scott needs to get angry enough to tap into his newly-gained supernatural physical powers.
Scott and Jackson are up against each other for the lacrosse equivalent of a kickoff, and the two stare at each other for a long moment until Coach Finstock blows the whistle. Much to Jackson’s dismay, Scott easily snatches the ball before he can even react, forcing him to chase after him as fast as he can. Just like the previous day’s practice, everything seems to slow down around Scott, allowing him to spin out of the way when the other players try to tackle him, jumping over another player’s ankle when they try to trip him, and finally, doing a hands-free round-off flip over three players who attempted to knock him down together, and shooting the goal by throwing the ball between the goalie’s legs.
Scott gasps, clearly having difficulty believing what had just happened, and Jackson looks both furious and desperate to know what Scott’s secret is. When Scott pumps his fists into the air, the other players run up to him and smack him affectionately on the shoulders, and Silver stands up in the stands to clap and cheer for him. Just then, Coach Finstock, who looks mad, calls him over.
“Allison, can you promise me something?” Silver asks as both twins face away from the field, “Can you promise me not to let myself get hurt? I can’t do it again.”
🐺
“Silver? Going out?”
Silver nods as he walks down the stairs in a white button up, black jacket and jeans. “Going to the party that Allison is at.” He answers his dad. “And you didn’t think to go with her then?” His mom questions causing Silver to sigh and roll his eyes.
“She’s friends with the girl who’s hosting it. I’m getting a ride.” He tells them quickly.
Scott, who apparently talked his mother into still allowing him to use the car, pulls up in front of Silver’s house. He’s wearing a black and red patterned shirt with a green jacket and is nervously drumming his fingers on the steering wheel as he waits for his date to come out.
“Listen, can I just- can I just go? Scott’s waiting for me.” Silver asks as he places a hand on the doorknob. “Scott?” Victoria Argent questions, “I don’t think-”
Chris stops his wife with a knowing look as his eyes glance to Silver, landing on his arms. “Go ahead. Just make sure you come home with Allison.” Silver gives his dad a grateful smile as he opens the door. The two make eye contact with each other and smile as Silver walks toward the car.
🐺
Scott and Silver arrive at the party in the backyard. They walk through the house toward the back patio, where they find dozens of party attendees dancing and drinking around the swimming pool and the fire pits scattered across the yard. Silver looks around the party spotting his sister laughing with a guy and talking a huge group of people. Allison looks up waving at her brother causing Silver to wave back.
“You okay?” Silver asks noticing Scott was quiet for a long time. “What? Yeah, I’m fine.” Scott answers looking back at Silver. Silver nods as he looks around the party and sees people dancing and he turns to Scott holding out his left hand waiting for Scott to take it, which he finally does with a smile.
Scott leads Silver down by the pool and the rest of the crowd. Silver puts his right arm around his neck, and the two get closer and closer to each other. Silver runs her fingers through the back of Scott’s hair with a smile before burrowing his face his neck. Silver smiles as he feels Scott tighten his grip on his waist.
Silver and Scott are nose-to-nose now, and just when it looks like they’re about to kiss, Scott’s fingers tighten around the back of Silver’s jacket as the full moon finally starts to take effect in his body. He’s suddenly stricken with a terrible headache caused by all of his senses being heightened all at once, and he groans as he clutches his temples with both hands. Silver stops dancing and looks at him with concern.
“Are you okay?” He asks. Scott continues to groan until the ache subsides slightly, opening his eyes just enough to see where he’s going as he turns to go somewhere private and ride the sickness out. “I’ll be right back.” He mutters to Silver.
Scott heads inside the house, leaving Silver alone in the backyard. Silver looks around stunned as he feels someone grab his arm causing him to jump. “Calm down Silver, it’s just me.” Allison says to him. Silver nods as he looks both confused and hurt, follows Scott until he sees him get into the car and drive off without another word. “Is that Scott leaving?” Allison questions.
“Silver. Allison.” The Argent twins turns around to see Derek standing behind them with a charming smile. “I’m a friend of Scott’s.” Silver looks back at the road that Scott took to get home before turning back toward Derek, who takes another step toward him.
“My name’s Derek. Do you need a ride?” Silver hesitates as he glances back to his sister. “A friend of Scott’s? I thought his only friend was Stiles?” He asks crossing his arms. Derek glances between both twins with a smile, “We’re old friends.”
🐺
“I hate guys.” Silver mutters as he and Allison walk into their house. “I hate stupid lacrosse guys that abandon their date at a stupid party thrown by our stupid new friend.”
Allison laughs as she and Silver separate into their rooms both changing. After a few minutes Silver marches into Allison’s room throwing himself on her bed.
“Still hate boys?” Allison asks him as she takes a seat next to him. “Maybe I should listen to mom and dad and just never dare anyone.” Silver mutters.
“Maybe you should listen to the best sister ever and go get us ice cream and a cheesy movie so we can cry our hearts out ?”
Silver walks out of Allison’s room already in sweatpants and a t-shirt with a smile on his face. Moments like this he’s glad he has his sister to put a smile on his face when a guy just leaves him stranded.
“Silver! It’s for you.”
Silver furrows his brows confused on why his mom is calling him down the stairs. Silver walks onto the balcony at the top of the staircase, looking perfectly fine, though he is no longer wearing his black blazer. Stiles looks flabbergasted by the sight of him, and Silver looks confused as to why he looks so panicked.
“Stiles? What are you doing here?” Silver asks rushing down the stairs. Stiles shrugs as Victoria Argent walks away. “Oh you know, just saying hi.”
🐺
“Are you going to give him another chance?” Allison asks as he and Allison stand by their lockers. Silver sighs as he shrugs looking down at the ground, “If I don’t then it’s just like every other school but if I do,” Silver trails off.
“If you do you might get hurt.” Allison finishes for him.
After school, Scott is waiting outside the front entrance to the school for Silver so that he can apologize to him. When he finally sees him leave the school with Allison next to him head toward the parking lot, he approaches him as Allison leaves them alone.
“So what happened? You left me stranded at the party.” Silver tells him crossing his arms, annoyed. “Yeah, I-I know, I know. I’m really sorry, I am. But you’re gonna have to trust that I had a really good reason.” Scott defends himself.
“Did you get sick?” Silver asks him. “…I definitely had an attack of something.” Scott mutters avoiding glancing down. “Am I gonna get an explanation?” Silver asks once more as Scott looks up at him with an innocent smile.
“Can you just find it in your heart to trust me on this one?”
Silver smiles as he bites the inside of his cheek, “Am I gonna regret this?” Scott smiles and shrugs sheepishly, “Probably. So is that a “yes” on a second chance?” Silver laughs as he looks at Scott, “Definitely yes.”
They smile at each other for a moment until they’re interrupted by a car horn beeping near them. When Silver looks up to find the source of the noise, he sees a familiar burgundy SUV and prepares to leave with Allison in the back seat.
“That’s my dad. I better go.
